"Rin. I could never hate you. You're one of the strongest people I know. Now come on. It seems like you have a story to tell," Kakashi said. I smiled and nodded. I didn't know where to start so I just started at the beginning — my parents' death.

Present

"I need to start at the beginning. Please, don't interrupt me, Kakashi. What I'm going to tell you... I've never told anyone. So please, don't tell anyone," I said.

"You have my word, I won't tell anyone, Rin," Kakashi said. I let out a breath I hadn't known I had been holding.

"Thank you, Kakashi. Now, my story. This happened when I was six. People had been whispering about me being the Yellow Flash's daughter. The villagers... treated me like I should've been a prodigy. I was a disappointment to them. When I got home that night, I asked my... my parents about it. My mother turned pale and... she told me to go to my room and never ask again. I didn't understand but did what she asked. Some time later I heard them yelling. They were fighting... again. They had been fighting a lot then. I had tried to stop them before... I had to go to the hospital because I... I tried to stop them when I couldn't do anything. I kept getting stronger day by day but... I wasn't ever strong enough to help them. I was the one that found them... I couldn't stop screaming Kakashi... They were my parents..." I said. I could feel tears streaming down my face.

"Hey. It's okay. You know, my father committed... suicide when I was younger," Kakashi said.

"I'm sorry," I said.

"Thank you. I'm sorry about your parents," He replied.

"Thank you," I said. My body seemed to be moving on it's own. I wasn't paying attention to the signs around me but somehow I ended up at my apartment. I unlocked the door and went inside, closing it after Kakashi had entered. He stopped and took off his shoes. I did the same before we went to sit on the couch.

"Rin... what do you think would happen if... one of us left and never came back?" Kakashi asked.

"I think... I think one of us would become cold-hearted. Maybe join the ANBU to take their mind off of what had happened and have reoccurring nightmares even after years pass. The person left behind would be broken beyond repair. They won't let anyone in out of fear of losing them. I have a feeling that one day, I won't be here to help you Kakashi. When I do leave here, please don't close yourself off. Talk to someone, anyone about it," I said.

"I'll do my best, Rin," He said.

"Thank you, Kakashi. You know, you really have saved me," I said before standing up and walking to my room to change. I closed the door and pulled out and red kimono with black trim and quickly got changed. I went to the bathroom and put on a little bit of makeup before going back to where Kakashi was. He had moved to stand beside the window and was looking out at the village.

"Are you ready to go to your house so you can get ready, Kashi?" I asked.

"Yeah. Let's go," He said. We walked over to the front door and pulled on our shoes before leaving and going to Kakashi's house so he could change. We got to his house and he unlocked the door. We took off our shoes and Kakashi went to his room to change. He was only gone a few minutes before he came back down wearing a black kimono with white trim.

"You ready to go to the festival?" Kakashi asked.

"Yeah. Let's go," I said. We walked to the front door and pulled on our shoes before leaving and going to the festival. The streets were already littered with families and other teams. I looked around and saw a group of other kids our age surrounding Minato-sensei. I quickly made my way over and pushed through the crowd. When I stood in front of Sensei and I grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the other kids. I grabbed Kakashi's arm as I walked away from them. Some of the girls were yelling at me to let him go but I didn't until we had turned the next corner.

"You okay, Rin?" Kakashi asked.

"Yeah. It just bugged me how all those kids were swamping Sensei," I said. Sensei chuckled and put a hand on my head.

"Thank you, Rin," He said.

"No problem, Sensei," I said.

"Let's go enjoy the festival, alright?" Kakashi asked.

"Yeah," I said. We walked around the village playing games and getting snacks here and there until nightfall. Once the stars started to come out, Kakashi and I parted ways with Minato-sensei. After a while of walking we were at a small bench on a hill that overlooked the village. After looking out at the village for a while, we made our way back to my apartment.

"Rin?" Kakashi asked.

"Yes?" I asked.

"What did you mean when you said I saved you?" He asked.

"If it weren't for you... I don't think I'd be as happy as I am now," I said. It was part of the truth, but it would have to do for now. Kakashi nodded and started walking to his house. I sighed and unlocked the door to my apartment.
