Some time in September of 1959

As it turned out, (Y/n) really enjoyed going over to John's, and she absolutely loved Aunt Mimi's cooking, which was certainly a perk. She'd visit every now and then, and gradually her presence became a common occurrence in Lennon's home.

A couple of weeks after they turned in the project, the carnival was coming to town. Unbeknownst to (Y/n), John harbored feelings for her. Lucky for him, such feelings were reserved for his heart as well. This would be the perfect way to ask (Y/n) out for a date, and John knew he couldn't pass on such an opportunity.

Of course she said yes.

Some time in October of 1959

The day they chose to visit the carnival finally arrived. The two played pinball, balloon popping, and the famous Dodgem bumper car game. After John bought (Y/n) a candied apple, the two walked up to the newest attraction: the Ferris Wheel.

"I've been eyeing that thing all night," John remarked.

"Do you reckon it's even safe?" (Y/n) asked.

"Well, I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it... I mean if it was, those children wouldn't be boarding it as we speak, you big baby" John laughed.

The girl pretended to punch him in the shoulder.

"Jerk."

In the end, they decided to go on the Ferris Wheel. A deep, shouting voice bellowed from a stout man, standing at the microphone in the front of the line.

"Come one come all to the wonderful Ferris Wheel of the twentieth century! See Liverpool's nearest wonders from an amazing perspective at the comfort of this aerial delight!" the man announced excitedly, his energy matching his bright red outfit.

"What wonders?" John snickered.

They stepped onto one of the squeaking carts. It was painted green with intricate floral designs, but in some spots they were chipped away to its original white paint. Suddenly, the cart started moving up, stopping occasionally as the next couple got on.

"Isn't this the strangest feeling?" (Y/n) asked.

"I was thinking the same thing! It's as if we're floating" John answered thoughtfully.

However this thoughtfulness quickly turned to fear. They were slowly reaching the top of the wheel. John suddenly took (Y/n)'s hand. He looked visibly scared as the wheel quickened speed, and their cart was shifting backwards.

(Y/n) stifled a giggle, and decided to let John be the "brave" one in this situation.

"I don't know about you, but I feel a bit scared!" she tried her best to sound anxious.

John immediately changed his attitude. He knew that her safety was more important to him than his own. He placed his arm around her shoulder and she leaned her head just under the crook of his neck.

"It'll be alright, love, it's just a carnival ride, nothing bad will happen, I promise."

(Y/n) hid a smile. The cart was moving back up to the top.

"You know, I used to assume you were just an arrogant fool, but you've been so sweet to me, It's as if your entire character has changed around me."

"Really?" he replied, "I think you're to blame, I used to be cool," he joked, pushing back his hair dramatically.

She laughed and stared shyly at John, but realized what she was doing and quickly looked away.

John really liked the girl. She had everything. (Y/n) was intelligent, humorous, compassionate, and although it wasn't the most important thing in the world, John thought she was a real looker.

They were reaching the top of the Ferris Wheel for the last time. John decided to take a big chance. Little did he know, so did (Y/n). So when he leaned in to kiss her, they ended up knocking heads. Romantic.

It was no matter to them though, they laughed it off, and after a few seconds, locked eyes, John waiting to see if (Y/n) was okay with him kissing her. There was no objection, and so he leaned in again.

She expected him to be rougher, but he was so sweet with her, she felt as though she was kissing a cloud.

When they finally pulled away, (Y/n)'s face was about as red as her smudged lipstick, which left a faint stain over John's mouth. She held her face in her hands, feeling quite sheepish.

"Did I do something wrong?" John asked nervously.

"No, not at all...it's just, my lipstick..."

John wiped his mouth with his left hand.

"Oh, I don't care about that... would, would you like to do that again?"

They were lowered almost to the ground at this point. The ride was over, but the two of them were overjoyed with their newfound mutual attraction.

"I'd love to, but not here, somewhere more private, I'd hope."

At the bottom of the Ferris Wheel, in line, stood Paul and George with their girlfriends, Dorothy and Iris. The girls were talking quietly as the boys decided to make a little scene. Now it was John's turn to get red.

"Nice one, Lenny," Paul chuckled.

"Aw, shove it, Macca," John retorted, shaking his head with embarrassment.

"Uh, Johnny boy, you got a little something..." George taunted, pointing at the corner of his mouth.

Of course, it was all in good fun. They all laughed, then went their separate ways. It was a great night for the both of them, and they hoped it was a night the other would never forget.

They walked up to a ring toss booth. (Y/n) spotted a plastic lavender Balinese cat doll with a golden painted collar.

"See a prize you like?" John asked, a warm look in his eyes.

"That cat figurine is absolutely adorable!"

John handed the carnival worker a bob and got three rings in return. However, it would take more than three rings to win that cat. After roughly eleven tries, he finally got it; to see (Y/n)'s award-winning smile when she held that cheap plastic toy was the real prize for John.

After that, they decided to leave, but first buying some candy floss. John was walking the girl home when he finally built up the courage to ask her.

"So, uh, (Y/n)," John was getting extremely flustered at this point, nervously fussing with his hair. "Well," he could barely string his words together in a coherent manner.

"Well," (Y/n) mirrored playfully.

"Well do you wanna go steady with me?" John finally spit out, face red.

"Of course, dork."
