[ H U M A N ]
a short story inspired by eduardo galeanoShe tore apart the house.
She peeled off the wallpaper. She smashed the floor. She emptied the drawers and scattered their contents.
She roared with rage as she searched for the little piece of herself she'd lost.
He closed himself off from the world.
He shut the doors. He pulled himself into a ball and hoped the world forgot he was there.
Silent tears streamed down his cheeks as he wished it could have been different.
They put their universe in a jar.
They trapped everything valuable to them inside jars. And when these treasures withered and died, they shrieked with panic. They limited their world to tiny glass walls, and when that world suffocated, they did not understand how they couldn't keep the things they loved alive.
They never realized there was more out there, somewhere.
They never realized only memories stay alive.
The children played.
The children laughed and tumbled without a care in the world. The children only knew the games, and when the games ended, they cried.
What was broken could never be repaired. It could be glued together, but it could never quite be whole again.
When everything broke and the children grew old, they wished for their games and that flawless, simple universe.
