"WHAT'S LOVE

BUT A SECOND HAND EMOTION"

//

AFTER ALL of the excitement the past weekend had offered Ivy with the Life and Death Brigade meeting, she decided to wind down after her stressful week of classes with paying a visit back to Stars Hollow.

Each time she visited the small town again, she found herself questioning why she left in the first place. The small town charm was so addictive. She could visit her parents and her best friends which was like the cherry on top of the ice cream.

Tonight was Friday night, and she had gotten in at 3PM, hanging out with her mom and dad at their co-owned record shop until 7PM.

Just then, the bell over the glass door rang as a familiar face walked into the Christiana's record shop, "Ivy? I didn't know you were in this weekend!"

"Mason!" Ivy screeched, very excited about seeing her best friend.

He embraced her in a hug as soon as she was within arms' length, " Why didn't you call?"

"I've been so busy," Ivy pulled away, smiling at how happy he seemed to see her, "How's Lane?"

"Engaged."

"NO!" Ivy playfully slapped Mason's chest, "When did Zach seal the deal? And why the hell wasn't I told?"

"Last night at Luke's," Mason began explaining, "And I'm sure Lane was just waiting to tell you in person. Now that I think about it, I think she told me not to tell you, so just forget you heard anything."

"My ears were otherwise occupied," Ivy said, laughing slightly.

"You have any fancy Yale homework?" Mason asked.

"No, I finished it all before I came down. Why do you ask?" Ivy asked, hopeful that he wanted to make plans with her.

"I was thinking we could resume our old Friday tradition for the weekend," Mason smiled widely, showcasing his adorable deep-set dimples.

"Movie at the bookstore?"

"You know it," Mason couldn't seem to stop smiling since he laid eyes on his old flame.

"Sounds good, Mase," Ivy said, "I'll go get ready."

IT WAS Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory night at the bookstore, and Ivy was ecstatic about it. She had been practically bouncing to her seat beside mason with her bag of popcorn in her right hand.

Unfortunately, Mason and Ivy had always had differing opinions on how movies should be watched. Mason was a talker, someone who believed that movies should be experienced with other people - occasionally talking with them to discuss the plot or make fun of a subpar scene. Ivy, on the other hand, was  a watcher. She believed that movies should be appreciated in silence, saving any thoughts about the movie until after the end credits.

"Psst," Mason whispered over to Ivy as Violet Beauregarde morphed into a blueberry, "Y'know, you look really pretty when the light hits your face like that."

"Shhhh," Ivy said, not really sure on how to react to his statement. Sure it would've been a normal sentence two years ago when they were dating, but now their relationship was always in a limbo stage between "friends" and "something more" which confused the hell out of Ivy.

"But-" Mason began, trying hard to connect back with his old love.

"The movie," Ivy said, intently staring at the screen and stuffing Mason's mouth with a handful of popcorn, watching in amusement as a majority of it fell back out of his mouth.

JUST AS the end credits rolled, Mason was gushing about all of his thoughts on the movie, "- and that is why I don't think Veruca Salt is actually just a spoiled brat, but really a top secret CIA agent."

"You're insane," Ivy laughed, happy she went tonight.

"But convincing," Mason winked in her direction, "Do you mind if I walk you home? Like old times?"

"Uhm," Ivy began, her mind briefly flashing to Logan and the kiss they'd shared just days before, "I don't know, Mason."

"Please," Mason said, giving her his puppy dog face.

"Mason-" Ivy laughed, "Fine, if it means enough for you to bring out the puppy dog face, then sure."

"Yes," Mason fist pumped.

Mason was being a gentleman: walking her home, giving her his jacket when he noticed she was cold, making small talk, and giving her the latest news around town, but she couldn't help but let her mind wander to a certain blond headed brat.

She would give anything to not be thinking about Logan, so she could appreciate Mason like he deserved to be appreciated, but she couldn't. Even though she knew that Logan was probably back at Yale, sleeping with the third blonde of the night - she couldn't help but want him.

Little did she know, that a certain blond haired boy was back in his million dollar penthouse - having trouble letting the hot blond dance on his lap without letting his thoughts wander to Ivy.

Both of them would have given anything to be with the other that night, but both of them shook it off - knowing that the other was probably out having the time of their lives with someone else, not even troubling to think of the other.

Which is exactly the reasoning Ivy gave for making her next mistake as her panties were being pulled down in the backseat of Mason's humble Corolla.

And it's the exact reasoning Logan gave for pushing the girl who's name he couldn't bring himself to remember off of his lap, catching the next train to Stars Hollow.

Maybe things happen for a reason?
