Chapter 3 - Baffled o.O
By the time Saturday morning came, I was even more fed up with the Night Association, and not because everyone is buzzing that the initiation is tonight. It’s because someone really wants me to go to it, and I’m not talking about Jordan.
When I woke up, I went into the bathroom and the invitation was taped to the mirror, perfectly intact. I threw it in the bin and when I picked up my laptop, it fell out again. Now I’m walking outside to find another method of disposal.
I spotted who I was looking for lounging against the wall of the building. I approached him cautiously; I didn’t enjoy coming into contact with him most of the time.
He looked up at me, "What do you want?" he snapped, his voice gruff.
"I need your lighter Jaz," I said quickly.
"Why?"
"I just do!" I snapped impatiently.
"Why should I let you have it?" I’m not in the mood for this today.
"Hi Len!" Jordan ran up to me, bursting with excitement, "Guess what!"
I guess he’s not mad anymore then, "Hold on a second Jay," I said, before turning back to Jaz, "Please Jaz."
"What?" Jordan asked, looking between us with questioning glances.
Ignoring Jordan, I said, "Please, I only need it for two seconds!"
"Fine," Jaz said grudgingly, handing me the lighter.
I took the invitation from my pocket and held it up in the air, letting the flame of the lighter engulf it. I dropped the remains of the invitation and handed the lighter back to Jaz before walking back inside for some breakfast.
Jordan followed me inside like a puppy, "Was that the Night Association invitation?" I nodded, while putting some bread in the toaster, "Did you get invited again?"
I turned round to face him, "No it fell out of my laptop this morning, and was stuck to the mirror in the bathroom when I woke up, AND it fell out of my textbook after you went off in a huff yesterday."
He shot me a look that said ‘you’re crazy’. "So it kept reappearing?" he asked slowly.
"Pretty much, yes."
"That’s crazy. It sounds like someone really wants you there tonight."
"I know," I shook my head, trying to get rid of the thought, "Oh, what was it you wanted to tell me?" I asked, changing the subject.
"Oh yeah!" A lopsided grin appeared on his face, "I GOT INVITED!" he whisper-yelled, waving the invitation in my face. I didn’t need to ask what he was invited to because sure enough, he held up the same night black envelope that was annoying me with the silvery lettering of his name.
"That’s great!" I smiled, happy he finally got what he wanted, "When did you get it?"
"This morning," he grinned, "I woke up to see the black hood hovering over me."
I made a face, "That must’ve been a sight," I muttered.
"It was creepy, but who cares? I got an invitation to initiation!" he yelled, dancing around the kitchen.
The sound of the toaster popping made me jump; I’d forgotten it was on. Instead of pulling toast from the toaster, I pulled out the same black envelope that’s being following me around, still in immaculate condition even though I burnt it to a crisp and its just come out of a hot toaster. How in the world is that supposed to work? And who wants me to go to initiation so badly?
"Didn’t you just burn that?" Jordan asked, confusion crossing his face.
I nodded silently, thoughts still running through my head as to how this is even possible.
"How?" he asked, but seemed to think better of it as he said, "Never mind," a few seconds later.
Silence echoed off the walls. It made me feel as though the black hooded figures were about to surround us in a swarm of darkness. I hope to god they don’t, but who knows what’ll happen especially after the ‘magic’ invitation.
Shaking the thought from my head, I placed the invitation on the counter. I refuse to dispose of it again if its only going to show up again five seconds later with no damage to it what so ever. Instead of obsessing over the invitation as I have all morning, I left the invitation in the kitchen and went into the main room with Jordan close behind.
---
Jordan and I sat watching movies all day like we used to when we were younger and soon enough it was half-past six in the evening.
Jordan and I stood outside in the crisp autumn evening. "I got to go. Initiation starts in fifteen minutes," he said, "Are you sure you’re not coming?"
I shook my head, "No, I’m just going to head to the lake."
"Okay," he said, pulling me into a hug, "I’ll let you know what goes on."
"Yeah okay. Go on you don’t want to be late," I smiled. Okay, so I don’t care about the Night Association but he does and that means something to me.
"See you later Len!" he yelled, running over to the other side of campus while I headed to my favourite spot next to the lake.
I love the lake; its serenity always calms me. Hardly anyone ever comes here so its always peaceful. I guess the monster in the lake (like the Lock Ness Monster) drives people away. They’re just rumours but the people in this town are very superstitious.
When the moon is shining and the stars are out, the light reflects off the water like some magical scene you only ever expect to see in movies. It’s breathtaking if you ever see it for yourself.
That exact image was playing in my mind before a hand clamped over my mouth, muffling a surprised scream. A second later the hand was gone but replaced with some sort of cloth. I began to feel tired and my eyelids became heavy. Before losing consciousness, I noticed the clear starry sky transform into a black merciless veil.

A/N: Let me know what you guys think of this. I hope its okaii, I'm going to try and follow the story a little more now so any confusion should be cleared up in a bit - hopefully. If anything is confusing you, leave a comment and if I can answer it, I will. Or just leave me a comment with your opinions or throw vegetables.
Oh, and the next update may be slightly faster because I started the next chapter before I'd even finished writing this chapter! Depends how long it takes to write really.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the story! ^_^
