Chapter 4 - Trapped?

Thoughts of the black sky flooded my brain as I began to regain consciousness. How, in just a matter of seconds, could the sky change like that? I’ve known it to grow dark before but never have I seen it change like that – it doesn’t even seem real. Maybe it wasn’t; perhaps I wasn’t seeing the sky at all.

With that thought, I realised I no longer felt the comfort of the soft grass beneath me. Instead, I felt the cold, hard surface of stone underneath my back.

I slowly opened my eyes, expecting to be met by a blinding light, but instead I was met by the dim light of wooden torches. Sitting up, I began to examine my surroundings.

It appeared to me that I was in some sort of cavern, automatically making me think of those seen in horror movies.

Something bad will happen here, I can feel it.

Ignoring the thought, I took a glance around the cavern. It wasn’t a particularly big place, but the remains of some old wooden furniture had been pushed to the side making the cavern seem more spacious. A flash of silver crossed my vision when I glanced towards the darkest corner. I didn’t have time to give it a second thought as at that moment, the torches blew out, even though I couldn’t feel a draught.

A shiver ran up my right arm as I felt a puff of air hit me, making my blood run cold. Calmly, I strained to hear any sound in the silence, only to be discouraged when I heard nothing. I felt the same puff of air against my arm for a second time and faintly heard what sounded like a person’s breathing. With that, I realised I wasn’t alone.

I turned to my right, where I could only just make out a silhouette of an unconscious figure laid on the stone next to me. I lost the faint outline of the silhouette as the person began to stir.

A few seconds later, I heard a quiet "Where am I?" from next to me.

I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I was holding when I recognised the same voice that had insulted me only yesterday.

I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it almost straight away when I realised I had no idea what to say. I don’t know where I am either.

Suddenly the torches lit again, the flickering flames illuminating the cavern enough for me to clearly see the outline of his defined features.

"Lena?" his voice now rang out loud and clear in the silence, echoing off the walls.

"Yeah," I said, before immediately adding, "You actually remember my name?" in a sarcastic tone.

"No I just guessed," he replied in the same tone, scrunching his face up, "What did you do to me?"

He’s accusing me of this? "What are you talking about?"

"You took me as payback for hurting your little boyfriend’s feelings yesterday," he stated, as though it was obvious what had happened.

"Are you kidding me?" I scoffed, "You think I did this as revenge on you for what you said to Jordan, who isn’t my boyfriend by the way?"
