I was gardening with my mother when it all started, it was a beautiful warm spring day I was at my best.
"Persephone"
I heard a ominous deep voice say, and it wasn't the first time I'd been hearing it for at least a weeks time. I didn't want to trouble my mother with it, assuming it must be a delusion because it never replied when I had tried to answer it.
"Persephone are you ok?"
My mother said behind me
"Yes, I'm fine"
I said, turning towards Demeter with a convincing smile
"It's spring! So I am fantastic!"
I said just to seal the deal, I saw the goddess smile warmly and behind her a flower bloomed so I knew she had bought it and was happy now.
"Ok love, I'm going to take a walk maybe go visit some mortal forest. Would you like to join me?"
Demeter asked me.
" I think I'll stay here actually, I'm not completely done. I'd like to add a fruit tree, maybe a pomegranate tree?"
I replied easily
"Very well, I'll be off then"
My mother snapped her fingers and then she was gone leaving a row of tulips behind her. I turned back to my work and started summoning the trees from the dirt when I heard it again
"Persephone"
It was starting to aggravate me
"Hello, who's there?"
I replied for fun not expecting a response
"Are you happy fairest Persephone?"
I was shocked at the question but I thought it through and answered
"I'm not sure, one could say they were happy but not mean it. I think I would be happier if you would expose your self or leave me alone"
I secretly liked the company of others, I did indeed love my mother but a change every now and then wouldn't hurt...
"If I could show my self I fear you wouldn't accept me, but If that's what you wish then I'll need your permission to bring you to my home"
His home? I didn't know if I should grant him my permission or run.. but I decided that I could just come back if I didn't like it, thinking back I realize how young and naive I truly was.
"I give you my permission"
I finally said. And then the world turned completely opposite to what I knew, there was no more spring just darkness and the warmth that I had just felt was now a shiver worthy cold. I immediately decided I didn't like it I also realized that it was to late when I opened my eyes, and looked up upon a tall shadowy figure in a dark purple robe
"Who are you?"
I asked but I didn't hear a reply only a whistle of a small breeze grazing my ears
