Jai Hind (Salute to our nation)

I kneeled on the earthen ground,
And rubbed mud on my forehead,
I sign of respect towards my land,
A country which has fought its way for independence.

Protests quoted “Go back Simon”,
The Dandi March led by Gandhi,
Reformers like Dadabhai Naoroji,
Who fought for Indians, their family.

Men actively participated for independence,
Their women right by their side,
Rani Lakshmi Bai and Sarojini Naidu,
Were few of the thousands who never thought to hide.

Men left their government jobs,
Children…school and education,
Rabindranath Tagore gave up his title,
And many more sacrificed for their nation.

There was division on the basis of colour,
“Dogs and Indians are not allowed",
Partition of Bengal on the basis of caste,
Was it this the English vowed?"

But our freedom fighters rose above them,
And joined hands in all this fuss,
“Jai Hind, Vande Mataram”,
These words are deep embedded in us.

Happy independence day to all my lovely friends from India and Pakistan. Also I've tried to include as much history possible but there is yet a lot left. Everything stated in this poem is true. Don't believe me then Google it.

Fun facts: India is also known as Hindustan- the land of the Hindus
The name India is derived from Indus, which originates from the Old Persian word Hindu. The ancient Greeks referred to the Indians as Indoi (Ἰνδοί), which translates as "The people of the Indus".

Pakistan=Punjab, Afghania [North-West Frontier Province], Kashmir, Iran, Sindh, Tukharistan, Afghanistan, and Balochistan. It means the land of the Paks, the spiritually pure and clean."
