Days after her death during infancy, Elizaveta Severin was bought back to life through a precarious deal her mother had struck with a demon: lend him his heart for her to live again. The bargain was not without consequences but the demon was long gone before he could name his price.
Eliza's subsequent life was one isolated from the outside world, leading a pious life under her grandmother's suffocating grip in an attempt to quench the darkness that lives within. But an event that made her realize she was closer to the demon than she expected led her to seek help from a cynical, young general on a quest to hunt the most deadly creature on the planet: the owner of her heart.
Together, they sail the seas to seek the demon, find answers to the strange deal her mother had struck and ultimately destroy him.
