Y/N stared in horror as Loki's blade entered her chest. She gasped, frozen in place as she waited for the imminent pain.
It never came.
Instead, Loki's figure faded away into a soft green light, which then dispersed and blew away with the wind.
Breathing hard, she clutched a hand to her chest as she stared at the spot where Loki had been standing. Her brain was so confused and startled that she only managed a quiet "W-what?"
She heard a soft laugh from up above her and when she looked, she found Loki laying on a branch just a few feet from her head. He looked down and saw her face, which made him laugh even harder and in turn made her face flush with embarrassment. Her previous fear transformed into anger as she realized what he had done.
"That wasn't funny!" She shouted, crossing her arms across her chest protectively. "I actually thought you were trying to kill me!" If Loki had heard the apparent growl in her voice, he didn't acknowledge it.
"Actually, it was quite hilarious. For me, of course." His legs were crossed and out in front of him as he rested his back up against the trunk. She hated how relaxed he looked and how casual he was making this. "Although I suppose it was probably not as enjoyable for you."
"Damn right it wasn't," she retorted. She was half tempted to jump up and yank his arm to pull him down from his glory seat. He laughed again and she cursed violently, turning around and covering her hands with her face in frustration.
"Oooh," he said, dragging the word out and adding a small dramatic sigh to the end, "Y/N, you know better not to say things like that."
The girl took a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself, which didn't work as well as she would have liked. "Alright, great. You've had your fun," she grumbled, turning back towards him. "You don't have to push it any further."
He only smiled again, unable to contain another small fit of giggles. "I couldn't help myself," he said between laughs. "You scare much too easily."
"Hysterical," she said dully, completely unamused and still very much angry that he found fun at her expense. Once she realized that he wasn't letting up anytime soon, she grudgingly settled on waiting it out. She was attempting to keep a stone-faced expression to show how she felt, but it was hard not to focus on the only other person, especially if he was being unbearably annoying. Her eyes wandered up to him anyway, and she started to notice things that she hadn't really paid attention to before.
The sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a spotted light on his face. His black hair shone rather beautifully, even further contrasting his pale skin and ridiculously sharp cheekbones. As she glared up at him, however, she found her irritation fading away. She didn't think she had ever seen him really laugh, not genuinely like this anyway. He looked much more gentle and soft compared to his usual appearance, and although she was still a bit mad, she couldn't help the small smile that was making its way onto her face.
She stared at him for a little bit longer, her expression now more curious than anything else as his short staccato laughs slowed to a stop. When he opened his emerald eyes, he looked down at her, a mischievous glint flashing across them.
Had...had he always been this pretty?
She realized that he was staring back at her, and her cheeks flushed in embarrassment. She immediately averted her eyes, hoping that he hadn't noticed. He either didn't or chose to ignore it as he didn't mention it. He hopped down from the tree branch, hanging onto it with one hand before touching down on the grass. His smirk was still playing on his lips as he brushed off some stray leaves and bark that had attached to his clothes.
