Those summer nights

Sweat and laughter coating the air

Our eyes meeting;

We looked away in a rush.

I liked the way you blushed

I remember the time my icy lips

Connected with your soft, quivering neck

The sorry that came out in a quiet hush

The smile you gave me, telling me it's okay in our own secret language

I remember the night we snuck out

I only came out to see you

Did you know?

I remember the climbing, the sitting, your voice, and our hysterics

I remember the running, the falling,

The chasing and leaving me so much to lust after

I remember the pale blue bottle shattering

Or one of them at least

The red, white and blue flashing lights scaring us

We ran towards our creek, we soared through the sky

Or maybe it was the excitement churning, propelling us forward

I loved the feel of my hand glued to yours

I remember the "man" that scared us but later turned into a tree

I remember the park and the stupidity of us,

The white ghosts of our breaths and the big blanket you carried

I remember the unfortunate walk back, my heart heavy, not wanting the

night to end

That night you snuck into my house and into my bedroom

You slept on my bed

And I fell in love with your curls

I just want to remember those summer nights

I could forget the rest...

I wonder if you think back to those summer nights

Before I moved away (from what we could've been)

Or I wonder if what I felt was just a beautiful lie
