Chapter Ten:

Daniel spent the next few days slightly pouty but also oddly content despite the fact Kade had slipped away from him yet again that night at the club. He knew he could have pushed it when Kade had turned away from him, but he hadn't been sure if it would have made a difference so he'd let him leave without a fuss. Naturally, Daniel found it quite odd the way Kade held himself back when it came to sex. It piqued his curiosity in the worst way possible and left him with more questions than answers everytime he thought about it.

Currently, Daniel sat alone in a small bohemian themed internet cafe, his tablet in one hand, a chai tea in the other, slumped rather carelessly into a particularly large and colorful bean bag. It was about two in the afternoon and Amber was off at class, knowing she wouldn't be home for sometime today he had decided to visit the cafe alone seeing as she didn't really like it. To her, the design of the cafe was just too much and she didn't find it nearly as comfortable to lay on the floor as Daniel did.

He couldn't help but sigh thinking about Amber, Daniel had told her about his encounter with Kade at the club and she had been less enthusiastic than he'd hoped she would be. She warned him Kade wasn't worth the trouble, ranting on that he'd already shown what he really thought of him already and she didn't think he'd change his mind. Deep down Daniel knew she was just being a protective best friend, which made sense especially considering he'd been so down after the first fight they'd had but Daniel couldn't help but feel slightly perturbed at her anyways.

He was excited, he hadn't been genuinely interested in someone since freshmen year of high school, nearly eight years ago. It was freshman year that he'd decided relationships were a waste of his time, as they all followed the same drastic pattern that left Daniel annoyed and single in the end. No matter who he was with eventually they got jealous, and not just of clients but of his friends, his family, and anyone Daniel spent time with that wasn't them. He always ended up feeling suffocated and needed out of the relationship before it even hit three months.

Strangely, he couldn't help but hope it would be different with Kade, he wasn't sure if he'd grown or changed any since high school. Daniel wondered if maybe he was just kidding himself or maybe it was because this was Kade. Daniel couldn't help but think maybe he could stand to be suffocated maybe even enjoy it if it was Kade but truthfully he didn't know. Thoughtlessly he began searching the web for forums and e-magazine articles on what a relationship was. There were way too many opinions for him to take in every piece of opinion but he found each one just as interesting as the last. It intrigued him when he sat back and really realized how multifaceted the subject of relationships could really be.

After a few minutes of mindlessly clicking from site to site, he found himself on a strange website with a rather floral background asking him to take a quiz. Looking at the time it was barely past four and he really had nothing better to do so he clicked the start button. Answering question after question the test dragged on as he attempted to answer each question as honestly as possible. It seemed rather obvious and straightforward til one question threw him off. 'If the person you were seeing was seeing someone else, you would feel'. Daniel paused thinking back to the picture of Kade and the blonde woman, the idea of them being together rolled around in his mind.

He didn't like it, he knew that much but he wasn't sure if that meant it was jealousy or envy even knowing how vain it was he honestly didn't have much experience with those emotions in romantic relationships. Early on he'd been jealous of kids who had normal lives or envious of his brother getting everything he worked for but even those feelings had dissipated by the time he was twelve. Daniel looked over the answers thinking each one over carefully before hesitantly picking one. 'A little jealous, depending on how long you two had been dating'
