Chapter 5 | Getting to know you

"Every new friend is a new adventure...the start of more memories." -Patrick Lindsay

;;;

That day I went back home with thoughts clouding my mind and I would never admit that most of which were all about Shai. As I lazed about procrastinating on doing my homework, I realised that I had 2 periods of Higher Art lessons tomorrow. This meant a total of 2 hours with the one and only Shai. It was not that I was excited to see Shai again no, that would not even be an option but my heart beat significantly increased. I assumed it was just me being happy about the change in dynamics from one of a boring lesson to one that allowed more creativity to flow.

That night, I prepared an outfit before heading to bed. It showed a little more skin and was overall of a tighter fit, showing off whatever curves my body might have. It was not easy to fall asleep, to say the least. Not with me tossing and turning in bed trying to shake off what I already knew were irrational fears of mine that was unrealistic and had a possibility of happening in a one in a billion chance.

When Friday morning finally rolled around, I packed my art supplies into my bag and headed out the door, a blank canvas in my hand. I was on cloud nine and even Reine noticed my unusual demure as a large grin plastered across my face.

"What's with the smile today?" Reine asked.

"Hmm...nothing." I hummed.

"OK. This is not usual. Tell me."

There was silence for a moment before Reine disrupted it once again.

"Please?"

I didn't reply Reine. Instead, I stood there with that dumb curve of my lips still permanently engraved onto my face. It was exactly at this moment that the gods must have decided to play a prank on me because not a second later, Shai walks by. He glanced over, smiled and waved.

Inside, I was dying and my outside must have showed it too. I was snapped out of my dreamy thoughts when I heard a loud gasp and felt my arm being assaulted.

As Reine continues to vigorously shake my arm, she sing songed out, "Kira has a crush~"

Now, that, was my cue.

I slapped her hand away from my arm, gulped and said, "N-No, we're just friends."

With that, Reine looked at me with her eyebrow raised criticising, "Whatever you say Kira. Whatever you say." before she sauntered off flicking her hair behind her all the way to her next class.

I stood in the middle of an empty hallway alone with one thought floating in my mind.

"Do I?"

The bell sounded throughout the school, indicating the start of lessons and snapping me out of my thought. I glanced around finally realizing that I was the only one left and scurried off to class.

Or so I thought I was alone...

I burst through the door only to face Mr.Wilson not looking too pleased with me as I had just interrupted his lesson.

"Care to explain why you're late Kira?"

"Erm sorry I just forgot to um I left some supplies in my locker so I had to get it." I lied as I already began to feel uneasy under the heavy stares of about 20-30 students.

Raising an eyebrow Mr.Wilson only nodded and gestured for me to head to my seat as he began going through about the project we had to do.
