                                                  3. The Car Ride

After we got in to the cab, Travis threw a towel over me because I was drenched wet from that stupid fountain and observed our injuries.  When he saw my arm,  I had expected him to cringe or faint, but he just smiled. Huh?! "What the heck are you smiling about?" I screamed, pulling my arm back from his grasp. "Do you know how serious this is? There is a bone poking out!"

"Not anymore," he said, pointing at the wound. I gasped. It had stopped bleeding and the flesh was repairing itself. "Looks like we got a new Apollo kid for camp!" I frowned confused of what that meant. He grinned, but it dimmed quickly. Travis looked at my face clearly, sticking his in front of it. He had curly brown hair that fell over his mischievous sky blue eyes, a sarcastic smile, and upturned eyebrows, so he kind of reminded me of an elf. Cute in any girl's eye, but not really my type. "You don't really have the looks for it, though," he muttered, scratching his head.

"What is that suppose to mean?!" I scowled. Travis waved his hands no, blushing.

"I don't mean it like that, honest! You just have a different appearance than them, that's all," He lifted a strand of my hair. "Like that you have black hair, but they have blond. And you have brown eyes while they have blue." He gave me a reassuring smile. "But don't worry we'll find out who your parent is sooner or later when we get to camp," His smile flickered once again.

"What's wrong?" I asked, watching his facial expression change back to happy yet again.

"That reminds me, here," Travis passed me a bottle of apple juice, ignoring my question. He hopped into the driver's seat and immediately drove out to the main road.

"Why apple juice?" I uncapped the bottle and took a sip, almost spitting out the continents. It didn't taste like apple juice at all.

"You don't like it? It's nectar, it's suppose to heal you while tasting like your favorite comforting food."

"Oh, that's why it tasted like," I took another swig. "Peanut butter with popcorn." Warm thoughts of home came to me as I greedily drank the bottle. "Yummy, give me more!"

Travis seriously shook his head. "If you drink anymore you would explode into fiery bits of flesh. But if you want that to happen, be my guest! Chug some more down!" I looked down at the bottle, could something that yummy be that dangerous? I check my arm to see if it really had healed. All that was left of that nasty gash was a thin while scratch.

"Can I give some to Derek?" He was bandaged over his cuts, but still wasn't waking up. If he drank some of that juice maybe he would be able to tell me what the heck was going on! Travis slammed the brakes.

"No!! My precious!" he said (just like the goblin in the Lord of the Rings) grabbing the case full of nectar. "If you give this to him, he'll explode into millions of goat chunks! And then I'll have to get the cab cleaned!" Travis hugged the steering wheel as if it were his girlfriend.

"Um...okay. Shoudn't we get driving, you did say there were a lot of monsters nearby." I glanced out the window. I was pretty sure I saw two glowing eyes coming out of the forest. Apparently, Travis noticed this.

"We got to go!" He stepped on the gas petal and we speeded away a bit too fast. I gripped on Derek for dear life.

"Where did you get your driver's license?!" I screamed, holding in my puke. Did I not mention I had motion sickness? Oops.

"I don't have one!"

"What?!"

"I made myself a fake driver's license! Pretty handy, huh?" Travis flung his phony card at me. "Isn't it sweet?" It stated that he was 17 and his picture was him doing a goofy face at the camera.

"Are you insane?!"

"Yes!" He looked at me through the mirror and saw me shaking in terror while about to hurl my heart out. Travis snickered. "Don't worry, this isn't the first time I did this! Although, the last time I drove I was in the infirmary for a week." I was about to use Derek as a bat so I could beat the candy out of Travis. I literally almost did, I picked up Derek and was about to swig, but he suddenly woke up and did the typical thing to do if you were being used as a bat, in the middle of the air, and riding a high speed taxi; he screamed.

"Julie!! Put me down!" I dropped him into his seat. "Thank you and where the heck are we going? What are we doing on a taxi? And why is Travis driving this thing?! You never let him drive, we'll all die! And why are you here Travis, don't you have to be in camp?" I covered his mouth with my hand.

"I'm the one asking questions buddy! Now, what is camp? Why didn't you tell me you were a satyr? Why did he say gods were real? What were you and Mr. Brunner talking about-" I took a deep breath. "-in the park? Why did Travis say I was an Apollo kid? Why did my wound heal by itself? Why did  Hermes know my father? And why is your foot a hoof!?" I shakily pointed at his foot/hoof, his sneaker slipping off.

He gripped my shoulders "Julie, what I'm about to say might shock you but I am a satyr," Derek cringed as though I was going to yell at him or something.

I rolled my eyes. "I already knew that. Weren't you listening, Hermes already told me! I'm wonder why you never told me!"

Travis answered this one. "Because if you knew about his goat side, there would have been more monsters."

Derek had a triumphant smile. "See, even Stoll agrees with me!" Travis shrugged.

"But I don't think it would have made a difference, the monsters are attracted to you like men and Emma Watson!" He started muttering things about her.

"That means she would be really powerful, her smell reached to so many monsters, even the Kindly Ones themselves!"

I cleared my throat. "Okay, I'm not sure whether to be flattered because you called me powerful or to be mad because you called me smelly,"

"No I didn't say you were smelly, I said your demigod scent is powerful, so your dad must be an important god."

"Okay, Derek, I think you just visited Crazy Town and you've gone mentle." I covered his ears. "We have to take him to the hospital. Quick, I'll knock him out, you drive us to the nearest medic! Let's go!" I held my sword's butt over his head. He knocked it out of my hands so it would drop right next to Travis. He squealed like a little girl, swerving the steering wheel to the right, almost hitting a car.

"Hey, watch it, bub! I'm driving here!" Derek rolled his eyes.

"Julie, just take a seat. It's going to be a long explanation."
