Darkness

The leaves slid over the teenagers' skin as they slid around the branches that crossed their path. The stars in the night sky could be seen by the naked eye through the branches. The creaking of the trees shook the teenager, turning to look behind them. Once she sees only the darkness, Jas turns back around, licking the sweat on her lips. Jas strolled through the darkness of the forest, her "friends" walking next to her. These friends always forced her to do things she didn't want to do, most of the things that they did, got them into trouble or get hurt.

The cold breeze gazed across Jas's cheek, making it feel like cobwebs were wrapping around her face. Jas had to lie to her parents, saying that she would go to a friend's house when, in fact, they were in the filthy forest. The moon shone through the lattice of leaves, emitting some light to the teenagers. Jas's electric blue orbs scanned the area in front of them, not wanting to get to their destination. "Jas, stop stressing, nothing will happen." The group leader, Gavin, rolled his eyes. Jas snorted, crossing her arms. "Yeah right." She muttered under her breath, making sure Gavin didn't hear.

"Are you sure we're not lost? Knowing ourselves, we've probably already lost ourselves in the middle of this forest." Cody persuaded Gavin. The amber eyes of Gavin looked down at Cody. "I know where we're going, if I were you, I'd stop talking." Cody grunted, looking anywhere but at Gavin as he straightened the strap of his backpack. A smile of satisfaction settled on Gavin's face, seeing Cody grumbling to himself.

Everyone was silent, the only sound that was heard was the movement of their feet along with the rustle of the leaves. They kept walking until a heavy blow along with some curses reached their ears. Jas turns around to see her twin sister, Shadow, on the ground. "You good?" Jas grabbed Shadow by the upper arm, lifting her from the ground. Shadow brushed herself off and thanked Jas. Shadow was a quiet child, she was a little sensitive, she doesn't really like being shouted at or being pushed around. "Look where you're walking, Shadow." Gavin spat, not looking at the girls. "It's not her fault, it's dark here and all we have is a worn out flashlight and moonlight." Jas defended her sister. Gavin stopped short and turned to look at Jas. "Do not use that tone with me." Gavin barked, getting in Jas's face. "Well, maybe you shouldn't be so hard on us." Jas screamed, earning a slap from the male, the sound echoed off the trees

Jas staggered back, eyes watering, holding her aching cheek. "Maybe, you should keep that mouth of yours closed, it seems like it will get you in a lot of trouble." Jas growled, glaring at Gavin. Now they could see the abandoned five story foot building in the distance. "I told you we were not lost." Gavin announced, looking at Cody. Cody rolled his eyes and started running toward the building.

Outside, the roof of the building would be green with moss and collapsed in one place. The windows would be dark and gray with dirt while ivy would be cling to the outer walls. Around it would be unkempt undergrowth as if the building had grown up from the very earth. Cody opened the door, scraping the dusty floor. It was pitch dark inside. Everyone walked up to the top floor. Cody placed his backpack on the floor and took out some candles and a lighter. "I heard that this place is possessed." Gavin waved his hands at the girls, trying to scare them. "Funny," Jas admitted sarcastically, walking toward Cody. Cody was better than Gavin, staying out of people's business most of the time and not forcing them to do anything they didn't really want to do.

Cody placed the candles in a circle, lit them and put what appeared to be an Ouija board in the middle. "Woah woah woah, are you thinking of playing this?" Shadow exclaimed, pointing at the board.

Gavin turned to Shadow. "Why, do you not want to play with us?" Gavin taunted Shadow, placing his hand on his chest where his heart was supposed to be. Jas looked around at the room they were in, the corpses of unfortunate creatures laid around. Disused wooden furniture would rot. The windows look as if they were staring at you, begging to live once more. Jas keeps looking around until a cough made her come out of her daze. "Are you going to join or what?" Gavin called, crossing his arms.
