It was hard not to notice her.

Most would say it's because of her natural aura.

Or her unconventional beauty, that made her irresistible without being the most beautiful woman in the room.

Her ability to be the center of attention while trying to avoid it.

Her wits and sarcasms towards however was rude to her or her friends. Her snappy remarks to pretentious rich schmucks.

The way she was so unimpressed with their power and richness, and never let anyone walk on her feet, no matter who they were, was... unique, amongst Gotham's high society.

People quickly learned to be a bit wary around her, learn to respect her even though she wasn't particularly anyone important (at the time at least).

And it forged her reputation, and made her...Difficult not to notice.

But those weren't the (only) reasons why Bruce Wayne's steely blue eyes were, more often than not, upon the young woman.

They were short glances at first. Catching her form across the room, only to hurriedly look away whenever her eyes turned to his, wondering why he felt so flush all of a sudden...

Curious looks that quickly turned into lingering gazes.

The way she swayed her hips as she walked, the strands of her (H/C) hair that fell over her face rebelliously. The wittiness and mischievousness in her eyes.

She wasn't a "high society" woman, and yet, it seemed like she knew exactly what she was doing, moving with grace around the richest and most powerful people in Gotham, while she was only a twenty year old emerging writer from the Narrows (aka, the poorest neighborhood in GC), who kinda stumbled upon this World of fanciness by accident.

Little did Bruce know that internally, she was screaming continuously, praying for things to go alright. Scared most of the time of saying the wrong thing, and always cursing at herself in her head whenever she was being a smart ass towards a famous person...

Later, he'd discover all of that, and would be even more impressed with that fierce young lady, who dared facing her fears so courageously. Without much hesitation. And with a confidence even him wasn't sure he could summon, while she was absolutely terrified of all of them.

Bruce's eyes couldn't help but be attracted to her as if they had a mind of their own, as if she had casted a spell on him.

An irreversible and beautiful spell.

And of course, there was her smile.

Whenever she smiled, or even better, laughed, it was as if everything around her lit up. As if the World made perfect sense and wasn't filled with injustice and pain.

Whenever she smiled, his heart beat wildly and he couldn't help but smile back, of a genuine smile he thought he lost when his parents died.

Whenever she smiled at him...Oh he felt like he was dying, too many emotions fighting inside him.

She was mesmerizing. She truly was.

And he just had to talk to her...

Because she was hard not to notice, and he couldn't ignore that fact anymore.

Walking towards her, Bruce Wayne couldn't help but feel as if his life, tonight, as he saw her for the first time, suddenly took a drastic turn. Hopefully for the better ?

************

"Everything alright?" she asks with a crooked smile as she finally takes notice of the pair of eyes upon her.

Bruce jumps a little bit, startled as she just took him out of his daydreaming. He didn't even realize he was staring at her. Again.

With a small smile full of fondness, he bends towards her and presses a gentle kiss on her lips.

"Everything is fine, my love, everything is fine."

He says with another soft kiss full of love.

She was about to answer but got distracted by one of her son, about to do something that would get them all in trouble. She leaves his side hurriedly, glaring at her boys, and Bruce sighs half-annoyed that they tore her away from him, half-amused by their antics.

His eyes follow her as she crosses the room with her usual elegant footing, and grabs her eldest by the collar, while catching her youngest with her other arm.

Even after years by her side, and though they were surrounded by amazing and beautiful people, at one of Gotham's most famous gala, it was difficult for him not to have his full attention completely focused on her.

It has always been hard not to notice her.

The End.
