Say the words that come to mind.

That's what I wanted from you, because I didn't know what your smiles meant. I didn't know what the side glances meant, the ones that you thought I didn't catch. Most of the time I tried not to dwell on it while you were standing there, on the other side of the counter, because then I'd be staring too, wondering what was going on inside your head, your heart.

Aside from that, you developed a talent when you were around me, one that you didn't even know you attained because I never voiced the truth about it. I'm generally a quiet individual, not due to shyness, but rather because I prefer to keep to myself. I handle my own problems alone-that's what I've been doing all my life.

But you absentmindedly encouraged me to speak up, to voice my thoughts and opinions. When you'd been talking for a while, you'd pause and glance at me expectantly. You patiently waited for me to speak up, enough times that it began to occur naturally. We turned a corner from one-sided conversations to two people inputting an equal amount of effort.

I don't know how you did it, but you did.
