Lexi knew just how much trouble she would be in if Toby found out she was skipping school to go to the Southside again — slowly going back to the way she was before her parents died. She tried to feel guilty, she really did but as the cigarette occupied her lips, she couldn't feel any.
Cheryl would kill her too if she found out, but Cheryl was the reason she found herself spending the night on Lydia's couch after walking straight down the lonely streets of the Southside in her fancy gown. She was surprised she didn't get jumped, though she had received some odd looks as wandering eyes frowned in confusion as to where she was going dressed like that. She supposed most of the town knew her well enough to associate her with the serpents and no one dared pick a fight with a serpent.
She had stayed up all night with Lydia talking and smoking until her eyes went blurry. In a way she was thankful for her foggy vision because when the text came at 3 or 4 in the morning saying Jason's dead body had been found in the woods down by Clearwater river, the words were blurred. Lexi knew if the words had been any cleared, she would have never got them out of her head, they would be all she could see.
Instead, Lexi went into a drunken state of denial before everything became a haze. She couldn't remember what else she had felt — besides a sense of denial before she ended up in Lydia's arms crying in despair as the older girl tried to catch a glimpse of her phone to see what had her so spooked.
Saturday morning was spent ignoring texts from everyone but Toby and Cole who checked in to see why she didn't come home the previous night and if she heard the news about Jason. After a lengthy phone call, Toby reluctantly agreed to let her stay at Lydia's until Monday morning when he expected her to return to the Northside for school. But she hadn't promised anything, she knew she wouldn't have the energy for it. Everyone would be droning out of classes anyway, too busy thinking about the possibility that there was a killed on the loose in Riverdale.
She thought about calling Cheryl too, and eventually caved. She'd put her anger aside to ring the redhead but when it went straight to voice mail, it returned sevenfold.
Now Lexi was walking from Lydia's trailer to the White Wyrm where Toni was working an evening shift. Her hands were stuffed into the pockets of one of Lydia's jackets, having had to borrow some of her clothes in favour of not walking about in her back to school semi-formal dress.
Unsurprisingly, she found Sweet Pea and Fangs standing outside while Pea lit up a cigarette. Fangs didn't smoke, he claimed he never had and he never would. Her friends were happy to see her after not having heard from her in a while, but she knew she was here for business rather than social catchups.
"Yo, Hot Shot!" Pea smirked, "What brings you back to our less economically developed side of the tracks?"
"That's a big word, Sweet Pea. Sure you know what it means?" Lexi smirked right back as Fangs laughed at her comment.
