a hand deftly flips over the hourglass
and the seconds begin to tick down
as fine sediment floods the base
unable to escape the gravity
that temporarily suspends
white grains in midair
while they succumb
to the force of
nature
which
marks the
halfway point
when both sides
achieve equilibrium
but time forges onwards
despite this ideal symmetry
so remaining grains pool with
finality that an hourglass brings.
