The nurse walked down to the lobby, trying her best to keep the tears at bay. She knew those boys down there cared so much for her patient, Scarlett, and would be devastated if anything happened to her.

She had one job.

One.

And she failed.

As she entered the large room, she looked from boy to boy. They had been here for three days straight, waiting for Scarlett to come to her senses and let them see her. The second the nurse, Bonnie, walked in Niall gave her his undivided attention.

"How is she?" Niall asked right away.

Bonnie looked down at her clammy hands, fiddeling with them as she tried to form a correct sentence. She was having a hard time coming up with an answer with all five pairs of eyes on her.

She could only think of one measily word to say.

So that's what she told them.

"Dead."

Earlier that morning, Bonnie had went to check on Scarlett. With the breakfast tray in her hand and a smile on her face, she went to the teenager's hospital room.

Scarlett wasn't in her bed and the bathroom door was closed, so Bonnie placed the tray on the bed and sat in one of the visiting chairs. After a few minutes of silence, Bonnie gazed away from the window and stared at the food on the bed.

The sheetless bed.

Why were there no sheets on the bed? The janitors change the sheets every Sunday and it was Thursday. Bonnie felt uneasy and got up to knock on the bathroom door.

"Scarlett?" she called, her knuckles tapping on the wood. Of course there was no answer, so Bonnie reached down and turned the knob. Surprisingly, the door was unlocked and it opened with ease.

Stepping in she felt the need to vomit. Bonnie entered only to come face to face with Scarlett's legs.

Swinging from side to side.

At 7:32 am on a Thursday morning, Scarlett woke up wrapped in her contricting blankets and knew it was the day she would die.

Tying the white sheets to the shower rod, she stepped onto the side of the tub. Forming a noose with the fabric, she slipped it around her kneck and stood there.

Sadly, as she was coming to her senses and realized how stupid she was being, she misplaced her footing.

Scarlett Gates, age 17, supposedly committed suicide, but really, it was all an accident.
