Bathory

I held Sally's hand as we walked into the dining room, the scene before me amusing to say the very least: the table was being held up by stacked cook books, everyone doing their best to place a tentative weight on the wood while they ate. Painter and Sonic both looked beat to hell but absolutely famished, Kagekao pecking at his soup while he read; Cadence and Lacy came running out from the kitchen with bowls of soup and grilled cheese, one of them holding a bag of goldfish crackers as they took their own seats. Sally joined them after getting her own bowl, Jeff passing her on the way out as he carried enough for two.

"Thank you," I told him as he handed me a bowl, taking my seat at the table while he sat beside me, "I swear, we can't even get a day of peace in between dumb shit."

"Well," he started, "you have only yourself to blame for the last one."

"Yeah, but like," I chuckled, doing my best to hold a grin back, "never mind, you dick."

"You love it," he teased, a cheeky gleam in his eyes as he shoveled garlic bread into his mouth. The doors opened just then and Persephone wandered her way inside with Ben, the both of them looking weary.

"How are you doing Percy?" I asked, gripping her hand as she took a seat next to me.

"I swatted a living ball jointed doll in the head with a two-by-four and she still didn't go down," she explained, eyes wide, "I'm considering...letting you guys train me."

"Finally!" Ben huffed as he came back out from the kitchen, "not that you can't defend yourself, but you'd be a lot better at it if we could hone your skills."

"You aren't going to be the only one, at least," I told her, watching the doors as they opened again; a shadowy hand allowed for a very battered Veronica to make her way inside, her eyes bloodshot and her hair frazzled. She let out a deep breath she'd been holding the moment I stood up and pulled her against me.

"I...I barely remember what happened," she whispered as she sat next to Cadence, "one moment there was a girl with a chainsaw staring me down and the next I was hitting some demented jester in the head with the curtain rod."

"You got him good, too," Laughing Jack told her as he emerged from the kitchen, setting a bowl down beside her, "Candy Pop doesn't go down without a fight."

"Candy Pop? More like Candy Ass," Judge snorted as she entered the room, Clockwork right behind her; she wiped at her eyes while she pouted, "scared of a wittle angel like me."

"He doesn't like holy objects," Laughing Jack explained, "they really had the whole party here, didn't they?"

"Puppeteer dragged in Emra and Zachary," Lacy added, "I haven't seen Nurse Ann since she left here..."

"I don't know why she's working for him," Jeff sighed, "she was really a nice woman, but then again Liu's on his side too, so who's to say..."

"Wait, Liu?" Ben asked, his jaw dropping, "Liu's alive?!"

"He attacked me in the middle of all of that," Jeff explained around a mouth full of soup, "he's all stitched up like Nightmare Ally. I don't know how he survived...that..."

"Zalgo has a lot more power than you all might think," a shadow appeared in one of the chairs, leaning over the table, "especially now with a mouth open."

"Wait, what?!" Jeff sputtered, and I felt my stomach drop, "how?!"

Micah's eyes, white as they may be, flickered over to me, "why don't you ask your girlfriend?"

Everyone's eyes seemed to fall on me and I dropped my spoon, pursing my lips as I attempted to piece together some type of explanation that didn't make me look like an idiot. I gave in eventually and sighed, feeling my heart as it slammed against my ribs, "he said he'd let Owen go if I sang for him..."
