Na Hyun hums along to the song on her speaker as she finishes up cleaning her new home. It was more spacious, and there were more rooms than before, including a second floor.
"Just a year and a half left." Na Hyun sighs as she cleans the picture frame with Kleenex to prevent it from dusting up along with other decorations and picture frames.
"You know, I really miss you."
Na Hyun was home alone as she has always been for five months, so who was she talking about all by herself?
Na Hyun spoke to the picture frame of Shownu.
In the picture, his hand was raised above his head, saluting in his uniform. The bottom of the frame had a baby picture of Shownu, tucked in between the glass and frame to keep it from falling.
He was four months into serving the military along with Wonho, who followed suit two months after. Though the two were gone, the other members were still promoting and making their hyungs proud.
"Tomorrow will be the fifth month of still not seeing you, how is that possible right? I feel like you're just promoting with the others, or on a reaaaaally long world tour. But it's okay, it'll pass before we know it." She holds the picture frame in one hand, with her fingers gliding on Shownu's picture with the other, as if she was comforting him, but mostly pep talking for herself.
Na Hyun places the picture frame back in its place, looking around in satisfaction as she completed deep cleaning for the week.
Just as she was about to fall asleep on the couch, her phone rings. Na Hyun picks it up, only to be confused.
What number is this? And why would they want to video call me?
Before contemplating for a little, she decides on answering it anyway, thinking it might be one of her friends. Na Hyun accepts the call.
"Hyun-ah!"
Na Hyun's shocked expression was seen. She's processing the fact that today was an unexpected first phone call from him.
"Is the signal bad?" Shownu's question brings Na Hyun back to reality. Her expression was literally frozen for a while, making him think their call froze.
"Hyung! How were you able to call? How are you doing? Are you doing okay? Are you eating well? You look like you got skinny! Sleep right away and make sure you eat the vitamins I gave you every night!" Na Hyun babbled, saying what she wanted in the time that she knew was only limited.
"Slow down, love. I'm able to call because everyone gets a video call today. I'm doing just fine. I eat really well and even get compliments from my superiors. I can't sleep sometimes even when I want to though. And I do eat the vitamins you gave me, I even share with my fellow mates here." Shownu perfectly answered her questions one by one.
"I miss you." Na Hyun voices out, feeling teary eyed. She stares at the two rings on her fingers. Shownu's is being worn by her while he was serving.
"I miss you so much more. I can't wait to see you, you know I've always been thinking about you. Is she doing okay? Did she forget to eat again? Is she sleeping well? Did some guy flirt with my girl again? Just thinking that makes my blood boil! Ya Hyun-ah, make sure when they come to you or come off rude to you, tell them you have a really big muscled boyfriend that can strangle them if they were to even try!"
Na Hyun laughs as he continues to rant about his jealousy towards other guys that set their eyes on her.
"Okay okay, I'll take note of that. I promise I'll do exactly what you told me."
The two end up taking about how their lives were so far, with Na Hyun updating him on the business as well as the members.
"The comebacks are really weird when there's only five on stage, it seems so off. It reminds me of the time when Changkyun and Minhyuk were injured so you had to perform as five. It's really weird seeing a five member group for me." Na Hyun sits in her kitchen, her palm under her chin.
Shownu sighs, feeling worried as a leader. Na Hyun didn't mean to worry him. But they've been scarred the moment they went on a hiatus in 2016. They've lost a lot of fans around the time and because of that, they prevent the same thing from happening by never ending promotions, world tours, and hard work.
"It's okay though. They had their fourth win yesterday!" She cheers to lighten up his worries.
"Oh really? That's great!"
"You have 2 minutes, Sergeant Son Hyun Woo."
Shownu looks up away from the phone, to the person who was speaking to him. He nods, before looking at the screen once more.
"I uh, have to leave soon."
"Yeah, I heard. Stay strong, Hyung. You can do it. I love you."
Shownu smiles.
"...I really needed that love. Thank you, I miss you so much."
Shownu waves to her, and she couldn't help but smile lovingly.
"I love you, Na Hyun."
