CHAPTER SEVEN

Iris strolled through the academy gardens, her green eyes scanning the moonlit grounds with a bored expression. The encounter with Kaname had left her mildly amused, but she couldn't deny the lingering irritation that bubbled beneath the surface.

Kaname Kuran always had a way of getting under her skin, though she'd never admit it. His calm, calculated demeanor was infuriatingly unshakable, and she hated how he thought he could control her.

"Punish me." She muttered with a scoff, her lips curling into a smirk. "As if he could."

"Talking to yourself again, Lady Iris?"

Iris glanced over her shoulder to see Hanabusa approaching, his expression somewhere between exasperation and relief.

"Don't you ever get tired of trailing me like a lost puppy, Hanabusa?" She teased, turning back toward the path ahead.

"I'm just doing my duty." He replied, though his tone was tinged with frustration. "Lord Kaname asked me to keep an eye on you, and I'd rather not face his wrath for failing."

Iris chuckled softly, her amusement genuine this time. "How noble of you. But tell me, Hanabusa—what would you do if I simply... disappeared?"

Before he could answer, Iris suddenly vanished in a swirl of green smoke, leaving Hanabusa coughing and flailing in her wake.

"Lady Iris!" He called out, but she was already gone.

Iris reappeared moments later in a secluded corner of the academy grounds, her gaze drifting upward to the moonlit sky. She let out a sigh, the playful mask she'd worn with Hanabusa slipping away.

She hated this place.

It was so boring.

The academy, with its endless rules and suffocating traditions, was nothing but a gilded cage. And Kaname Kuran, with his self-righteous authority, was its warden.

But then there was Zero.

Iris's lips curled into a sly smile as she thought of him. The Level E hunter was interesting, his defiance and anger a refreshing contrast to the sycophantic nobles she was used to dealing with.

"Kiryu Zero..." She murmured, her eyes glowing faintly green in the moonlight. "You're far more interesting than I expected."

The night air was crisp as Zero wandered through the academy grounds, his patrol half-hearted. His mind was still buzzing from the earlier encounter with Iris. She was unlike any pureblood he'd encountered—chaotic, unpredictable, and far too dangerous for someone like Yuki to be near.
