The air in the academy was unusually tense, and Kaname Kuran could feel it. He had spent centuries mastering the art of reading people, and the shift in Zero's demeanor had not gone unnoticed.
But Zero wasn't Kaname's concern today. Not entirely.
"Iris." Kaname's voice was calm but firm as he entered the dimly lit room where she lounged. She was sprawled across a chaise, her long legs crossed, her raven hair streaked in silver, spilling over one shoulder. The faint green glow of her magic lingered around her fingertips, dancing like fireflies before dissipating.
Her amber eyes glanced at him lazily, a sly smile curving her lips. "Well, well. If it isn't the emotionless pureblood. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Kaname ignored the playful tone. "You haven't been taking the blood tablets."
Iris rolled her eyes and sat up, stretching with feline grace. "Ugh, is that why you're here? To lecture me about those disgusting things?"
"Yes." Kaname replied evenly. "Why?"
She tilted her head, feigning innocence. "Because they're nasty." She said bluntly, her tone dripping with mock disdain. "And honestly, I don't need them. I can conjure blood whenever I feel like it." She flicked her fingers, and a faint green mist shimmered around her hand before vanishing. "See? Problem solved."
Kaname's eyes narrowed. "That's not the point. You're drawing unnecessary attention to yourself."
Iris shrugged, unfazed. "So? I've never been one to follow the rules. You should know that by now."
There was a pause, a charged silence between them. Then, Iris's eyes sharpened, her playful expression shifting to something more serious. "Why? You care?"
Kaname didn't flinch under her scrutinizing gaze. "Yes. I must ensure all your needs are taken care of."
Her smile returned, but it was sharper this time, edged with something darker. "Oh, how noble of you, Kuran. But I can handle myself. Always have."
Kaname stepped closer, his presence commanding yet calm. "Even so." He said softly. "You shouldn't have to."
Iris raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What's your point, Kuran?"
He hesitated for the briefest moment before speaking. "If the tablets are unbearable for you... you may drink from me."
The room fell into silence. Iris stared at him, her amber eyes narrowing slightly, as if searching for a trap in his words. Then she chuckled, a low, dangerous sound.
