"Save Me" Chapter 8

Selena’s P.O.V

I felt bad for doing it, but I had to wake Justin up because dinner was ready. He looked so cute and peaceful, but he needs to eat. I wonder how much he ate at his house?

"Justin" I whispered and shook him lightly.

Nothing. I sat down next to him and rubbed his arm.

"Justin, wake up" I shook him a little hard, earning a groan.

At least I know he’s alive.

"Dinner’s ready, Justin. Come on, wake up" I ran my hand through his soft hair, letting my fingers weave through it.

His eyes fluttered open slowly and he yawned soundlessly. He only slept for about a hour and a half, but it should do him some good. He rubbed his eyes and sat up, looking at me with a blank expression.

"You okay?" I asked, tucking my hair behind my ear.

He just nodded and got off the bed. I stood up and walked towards the door, letting Justin walk behind me as if I was leading him. Just as I walked out into the top hallway, I felt Justin’s hand slip into mine and he laced our fingers together. He rested his head on my shoulder, as we walked down the stairs and held onto my arm with his other hand.

We sat down at the kitchen table, along with mum and Gracie. They had come home about 20 minutes ago, turns out they were at my mum’s friend’s house or something. Justin sat next to me, whilst mum and Gracie sat opposite us.

"Thank you for making dinner, Sel" Mum spoke, smiling warmly.

I shrugged and twirled the pasta around my fork. “That’s okay”

"Thank you" Justin whispered from my left, making me smile.

"You’re welcome" I whispered back.

"So is Justin staying here long?" Mum asked, pouring Gracie a drink.

I shrugged. “I’m not sure how long, but he’s gonna be here for a while”

"Why is that?"

I swallowed the pasta in my mouth. “He’s having dad issues”

"What about your mum?" She asked Justin. "Aren’t you on good terms with her?"

I looked to my left and saw Justin looking down, with tears in his eyes. So his mum is a touchy subject?

"Okay, let’s not talk about that" I urged, hoping that she would get the message.

"Um, okay?" She continued to eat.

Great, now there’s an awkward silence. Urgh.

"Sel, why did you leave da lake today?" Gracie asked, shoving spaghetti in her mouth.

"I had to do something. Did I miss anything?" I replied, picking up my glass of water and sipping it slowly.

She nodded quickly. “Gangdad gave da duckys bread and they followed him everywhere he went afterwards! Even to da car! I wanted to bring one home and keep him for my pet. But mummy said no, so we had to leave him there with his family. Right mummy?!”

Mum chuckled and nodded. “That’s right, honey. We couldn’t bring it home, because the lake is it’s home. Tell Sel what you named him”

"kwackers!" She yelled, throwing her arms up in excitement.

I giggled at her enthusiasm. “That’s a great name, Em”

"Justy, do you have any pets?" She asked, looking at him.
