Side character Oikawa x reader?Angst! Hanahaki!

Hanahaki Disease is a fictional disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from . It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only; strong friendship is not enough), or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear.

"Amaryllis flowers" are single or double in colors such as deep scarlet, white, salmon, pink, and striped. This flower is named after a shepherdess who had unrequited love for a gardener

People say that we are our own main character.

That we are the stars of our own stage.

They claim that we can shine like no one else.

But. You though, have been doubting these claims.

Is it really possible for everyone to be the main character?
Despite it's metaphorical meaning, we all share one world.

Will that one world be enough for all the stars to shine as bright?

Will that small stage let all the actors play as the lead?

You figured that some would definitely outshine others. There was no way that it would be that easy.

And you were right.
It wasn't easy. Sacrifices had to be made.

If this were a movie you would definitely be a side character, the under dog, the best friend.

You'd never get the chance to shine as bright.

Though you've tried.

You've tried a million times.

Now enter Oikawa tooru.

He was the complete opposite of you.

Always surrounded by girls, A star volleyball player bound for nationals, got all the attention he wanted, and was loved by everyone around him.

He definitely was one of those stars.

And unfortunately, you were stuck as one of his best friends.

As the female Iwaizumi.

As the girl he treated as one of the guys.

No sugar coated words nor false sense of security.

And in all honesty, you envied him.

He had everything that you didn't.

But you knew better than to loathe him because of your overgrowing envy towards his accomplishments. Because you knew that he worked hard to get where he was now.

You were with him through his journey.
You were with him during the saddest and the happiest moments.
You, along with Iwaizumi.

And despite your envy towards him, you couldn't help but admire his dedication and his never ending need for self betterment that keeps him running.

You couldn't help but admire his childish and flippant attitude.

You couldn't help but give him your full support.

You couldn't help but tag along with his odd antics.

You couldn't help but cheer him on.

You couldn't help but fall in love with him.

That being unintentional, but every passing day these feelings grow and grow and you wanted to tell him every passing day.

But then again you couldn't help that he didn't feel the same way.

And you knew that this wasn't some misunderstanding, because if that were the case, you wouldn't be where you were now:

In the girls bathroom with your face plunged down the sink.

Countless white Amaryllis petals streaming down from your mouth to the once clean now blood stained sink.

Your throat was starting to get sore from coughing up who knows how many petals, and you could already feel the thorns from the depths of your mouth.

It was clear you were having a hard time. And even though you were more than capable enough to get rid of it once and for all, you weren't too keen on going through surgery so you had kept to yourself until a later date.

So you had to deal with it until then.

"This sucks." You mutter, wiping the corners of your mouth while taking care of the mess you made on the sink, shoving the petals in the garbage bin.

Honestly you thought that this disease was pure fiction, but your current condition says otherwise.

You sighed and decide to sit down on the floor but some one knocking the bathroom door stops you from doing so.

' guess it's time to leave' you thought, brushing off your skirt, slowly standing up.

"(L/N)?" a gruff voice calls out from the other side of the door, much to your surprise.

"Iwaizumi?" You asked recognizing his voice.

"Yeah." He replied " Afternoon practice just ended, Shittykawa said you've been here the whole afternoon."

"How perceptive of him." you sigh, opening the door.

"You okay?" The wing spiker asked examining your features.

Grinning at him you answered hoarsely. " Never been better."

Iwaizumi quirked a brow at this, skeptical of your answer.

Noticing his uneasiness you looked up. "I just had a stomach ache, i probably just ate bad curry during lunch, in any case you don't need to worry!" you reassured patting his back as your eyes traveled to oikawa and ran over to him.

Iwaizumi merely stood there as you turned around one last time to give him a grin, ushering him to hurry." Come on, we can't leave the trash unsupervised." With that you completely turned around to chat with oikawa.

Iwaizumi felt a pang in his heart as you hurried over to Oikawa with a smiling face.

Coughing lightly and indigo flower petal fell to his palm. He pocketed it and continued to trail behind the two of you.

Of course you would fall for Oikawa, just like every girl he liked, they always went for the star.

Who was he to be noticed by you though?

In a world full of stars he was just a side character after all.
