"There's got to be something we're missing."
"Nope. Katherine won."
Damon told Stefan.
"And she almost killed my kids. Alaric's kids."
Roman quickly corrected himself as he pulled off his tie.
"Katherine played the long game and she final beat us."
Roman sighed, pouring himself a drink.
"Oh my God."
All the Salvatore's gaped, Elena's coffin was wide open with no one inside.
"Earlier, Bonnie's heart stopped. She said she saw Elena."
Stefan mumbled looking around the room.
Roman felt his heart skip a beat, hoping the doppelgänger had finally woken up.
"Damon?"
Roman's blood ran cold as Elena's voice filled the mansion.
Roman gaped as he saw the girl standing before his very eyes.
"Elena."
Damon whispered.
"What's going on, is Bonnie-"
"Bonnie's okay Lena."
Roman reassured her.
"I'm awake?"
Elena laughed, as Stefan and Roman shared a confused look.
"You're awake."
Damon nodded, spinning the doppelgänger around as he hugged her close.
"No."
Damon suddenly grunted, shoving her away.
"Rude."
She scoffed as a defeated sigh escaped Roman.
"You got to be kidding me."
Stefan groaned.
"Katerina Petrova as we live and breathe."
Roman hissed.
"Hello brothers."
She smirked, pouring herself a drink as the Salvatore brothers glared her down.
"Am I drinking alone?"
"Where's Elena?"
Damon deadpanned, Roman ignoring every instinct to kill the girl in front of him.
"Dead. A spiritual coma if we're getting technical."
"Her body, Katherine. Where is it?"
Roman glared.
"That's for me to know and for you to, dot, dot, dot."
Roman groaned, turning to Stefan angrily.
"I'm gonna kill her."
"I hope you enjoyed the little show I put on for you. It's been a hoot watching you take on the devil. Especially considering, I've had him wrapped around my finger since the minute I stepped into hell."
Katherine smirked.
Damon sped over, taking Katherine drink and slamming it against the wall.
"Damn it Katherine. Where is she?"
Damon questioned.
"It really is the perfect revenge."
Katherine grinned.
"Haven't you taken enough from us already?"
Roman whispered tiredly.
"You maybe. What with your fiancé dying in front of you for the second time."
Katherine laughed, Roman trying to run toward her only for Stefan to grab his brother's arm tightly.
"At ten tonight, Mystic Falls will burn. Precious Elena will burn and I'm guessing one of you three Salvatores are going down with her.
Should I place my bets now?"
Suddenly Stefan stabbed the girl in the shoulder, Katherine falling to the ground.
"Well that shut her up."
"We're running out of time. We have to find Elena, now."

"I look forward to dying by your side KP."
Damon grinned at the doppelgänger.
"Sorry brother, that's my line."
Roman glared in the dark light of the tunnels.
"You're bluffing."
Katherine glared back at Roman.
"They aren't. Neither am I."
Stefan told her, joining his brothers in the tunnel.
"I have this handled Stefan."
Roman told his twin.
"You two need to get out of here."
He sighed, looking between his brothers.
"I'm not the one who's getting out of here Ro."
Stefan mumbled.
"You and Damon are."
"Bad time to be a martyr Stefan."
Damon hissed.
"Said the martyr."
Stefan smirked.
"I'm gonna let you three figure this out amongst yourselves."
Katherine tried to walk away, only for Damon to throw the knife straight into her back.
"Fine then. We'll all go."
"No way in hell Day. Someone's staying here to make sure this bitch stays in hell."
Roman told him sternly.
"I'm aware,"
Damon sighed.
"I love you little brother."
The next thing Roman knew his neck was snapped, his head hitting the cold ground.

Roman woke up in the tunnels, Damon sat in front of him with a blank expression.
"Where's Stefan?"
Roman asked jumping to his feet quickly.
"Where's Stefan?"
Roman yelled, his voice echoing throughout the tunnels.
Damon merely shook his head.
Roman felt his heart stop as he fell back to his knees.
"No!"
Roman shouted as tears fell down his face, the pain in his chest more unbearable then anything than he'd ever felt.
"D-Damon, I can't breathe,"
Roman gaped grabbing at his chest as Damon rushed to his side.
"I'm so sorry baby brother."
Damon cried as he hugged his brother tightly.
"I'm so sorry."
The pain of a sibling hitting harder then anything the two Salvatores could have possible imagined.

Roman and Damon stood rigidly in front of their brother's tomb.
A hollow feeling eating away at Romans chest.
"Do you think it exists? Peace?"
Caroline asked softly.
"For somebody like Stefan?"
Roman gave a weak chuckle.
"I'm sure he has all the peace in the world."
Roman whispered as more tears came to his eyes.
"We'll see him again."
Caroline laughed sadly.
"You'll see him again."
Damon corrected.
"We're going the other way."
Roman agreed with his brother.
"They'll probably reopen hell for me."
Damon tried to joke.
"Don't be so sure."
Caroline whispered, wrapping Damon in a hug.
"I'm sorry."
Roman whispered kissing his fingers and placing them on his twin's tomb.
"I hope you're where you deserve to be brother."
Roman left the tomb as a sick feeling settled in his stomach.
"Roman,"
The Salvatore's head snapped up in shock.
"Elena,"
He cried, out of happiness, wrapping the girl in a tight hug and burying his face in her neck.
"It's you!"
He grinned as did the doppelgänger.
"It's me!"
Elena giggled squeezing the boy tighter.
Suddenly Damon and Caroline left the tomb as well, the couple running to each other and kissing passionately.

Roman sighed as he set in brothers daylight ring on the pedestal, looking back at the friends he'd made in Mystic Falls.
They were all there for Stefan's funeral.
Alaric stepped up, grabbing the boy's hand as Elena grabbed Damon's.
The friends all walking away from the tomb and hoping for better days.

"What are you doing here?"
Alaric asked with a small laugh as Roman walked into the Salvatore school.
"I decided I'm going to stay here, it's my home. This is where I grew up with my brothers. It's time I stop running from that."
Roman took Alaric's hand softly.
"I'm staying here, and I'm getting my happy ending."
"Daddy!"
"Uncle Roman!"
The girls ran up to the two, each laughed as they hugged the girls tightly.

YEARS LATER

Roman and Damon smiled, standing on the doorstep of the boarding house.
"Damon, Roman."
Stefan smiled widely as did his brothers.
"Hello brother."
