Drops

A/n: so... since the wattpad poetry contest gave their prompt for this month which was "hope", I've been thinking about it. Then I remembered something. When my siblings and I were very young, almost six to seven years of age, our mother told us a story.

Hope you guys enjoy. Hit that little star in the corner and do leave your precious comments.

Ps: It was a long time ago when I heard this story, so I don't know when or why my mother told me this story. But what I do remember is that it was about a little drop of hope....

—————————

Skin all cracked
Earth let's out a cry
Fields turned to desert
Little lakes bone dry

No waters in the wells
Mankind is now afraid
Wonderin' if it stays like that
Who'll come to their aid

Up above, on the sky
Hidden on a cloud
Drops look at each other
A rather nervous crowd

A bit afraid of the hight
The drops don't look down
They know they have to jump
But they stand with a frown

Trying to hide the shame
Which came with the fear
None of them talks at first
They don't want to hear.

Then a tiny little drop
Steps forth stating
"We have to jump now
Man kind is waiting"

"But we can not"
they reply in one voice
"Act not like you don't know
You are no novice"

"And what about duty?"
Demands the little one
"Surely we can't stay up here
And don't care for any one"

"Oh, You are naive, yet!"
Exclaimed one of the eldest
His tummy all fat and round
Like coming from a big fest

The sun bakes the earth
There's no sign of rain
Some people wait and watch
But knowing all is in vain

They don't have much hope
Everything, they've tried
The forests are burning up
Every leaf has dried

Despite the situation
The drops continue their row
All burst on the little one
They just don't want to go

"What do you know?"
"Your just a young drop"
"If you don't believe us
You jump, we won't stop!"

"Fine, I'll do as you say!"
Tiny drop yells at last
"I'll jump and then you all
Will stand and watch aghast"

The drops look at each other,
A little worried, all of them
They know if he does that
They all will be condemned

Thirst aching his throat
A little child looks up
He's the only one who's left
The rest have given up

Looking down from the cloud
Little drop hesitates a bit
If he jumps down from here
The ground, then, he'll hit

But then he takes a breath
He has taken a pledge
So he broke into a run
And jumped over the edge

When the little one disappeared
The drops, first, stand in shock
Then they all rush to the spot
Fearing the tiny drop hit a rock

Down in the field
The child extends an arm
The little drop fell
And landed in his palm

The child ran home
Faster than a bullet train
And at the threshold yelled
"Look ma! Pa! Rain!!"

The drops looked at each other
They all knew what to do
If the little one could do it,
Then why they couldn't too?

They jumped one by one
Then in form of a pack
The people shouted in glee
"The rain's at last back!"

The children sing and dance
The people now celebrate
Very soon, one of these days
More crops, they'll cultivate

The Earth would now turn green
There's no reason left to mope
Just one tiny little drop
Has bought a lake of hope
