Chapter 1
Aminah couldn't stop staring, at the pictures her friends just posted on Facebook. Envy burned her heart. They are so lucky. Going to school, making a career for themselves .it's not fair, she thought. I'm the only loser at home doing nothing with my life. But now it's impossible, with the engagement only a week away.
Her thoughts vanished when she heard a knock on the door. "Who is it?" said Aminah.
"It's just me beta. I came to see if you're okay, you haven't been talking much lately" said Amma with worry in her eyes. "I understand it's all very sudden, I'm so sorry there's nothing i can do to prolong the date. It's your father and Chacha's decision. But I know you will be very happy there."
"How can I be happy without you, amma? In another country all alone, where I don't even know anyone." Aminah whispered.
"No my darling, you will not be alone you will have your Chachi and Chacha. Also Hasan, your soon to be husband. " Amma said with a wink. " always remember 2 things when your going through a tough time in life, have sabr and shukar. this is what i have been told since i was young by my own mother and now i pass on this advice to you"
Aminah nodded "thanks Amma, I feel better. I trust you and Abbu, and I know that whatever you do, is what you think is best for me. I always just want to make you proud of me."
"We are very proud and we love you. In the end it's always your choice, don't be scared to tell us how you feel. "
Just as her mom was about to leave she turned and looked into her daughters sad eyes and said "beta, they want to do the walima soon, in a few weeks."
"But Amma I can't leave you this soon! There is only one week left to the nikkah." Aminah cried desperately, wishing for time to turn back to when she was just a child.
"We won't let you go completely, my beta. you will come visit us. But we can prolong it if you want, so you two can at least get to know each other. "
"Oh ok" whispered Aminah. Thank goodness she thought.
"Are you happy Aminah? With this marriage?" her mom asked with worry in her eyes.
"If you're happy, I'm happy." Aminah quickly changed the topic. "What are we having for dinner?"
"Your favourite, biryani. Come let's eat." Her mom laughed.
Eat your worries away thought Aminah.
