The key step to every problem is to fully understand the issue you face. It could be someone randomly insulting you and your friends for laughs, or maybe jealousy or something along the lines of needing attention, so they look in the darkest places for it.

When you encounter a bully - don't jump into the action. First, look at the situation. If you don't look at things such as "who started it" or "who is continuing it", then you may very well end up on the wrong side of the problem. The key to putting down a problem is to solve it as quickly and effectively as possible, and the IDEAL system helps with that. 

Identify the situation. Make sure that the moment something happens - you take as much information and data as you can - and know exactly whats happening to you or your friend.
