The next morning had rolled around and Stevie and Lindsey got up---spending it packing. There wasn't much since they never really unpacked. But they were going to leave only because it was right to, at the moment.
Stevie had done her best to create peace but it did nothing for anybody but make her cry and her mother more mad. She felt like she wasn't winning, so going home was going to be the better option, she felt.
...
"You have everything?" Lindsey held up her duffel bag as he stood in the doorway.
"I think so... Whatever I can't find, I'll replace it," she said blankly through a shrug. "I just wanna go."
"Okay," he stepped forward to kiss her forehead and then he walked out with her on his trail.
As the pair went on about their drive, Stevie had thought aloud that they should stop so she could at least say, bye to her brother and sister. She was going to try and stay out of line of her mother but she didn't know if she would succeed.
"Do you want me to come down with you?" Lindsey asked as he pulled into a parking spot.
"No," she put her hand on his forearm, rubbing lightly. "I want to go in and go out. Thank you," she smiled weakly. She then unbuckled herself and stepped off the car. She kind of treaded through slowly and with caution.
It saddened her that she couldn't just walk into her home and be happy.
She glanced around, scanning for Lori or her brother so she could make her way.
"Hey," Christopher came up with a smile.
"Hey," she smiled. "I was just gonna say bye."
"Are you leaving? You just got here, yesterday---" he creased a brow.
"Yeah, but uh... I should go," she nodded. "Where's Lori?" she said nervously. Still she was trying to hide from her mother if she happened to see her.
"Stevie, you're not leaving," he told her.
"Dude, come on---I wanna go," she begged, shaking his hands in distress since their hands were locked. "I don't wanna fight with mom again and I don't want her to yell at me for being here."
"Why would she--"
"Chris, I need you to--" Barbara stopped from cutting off her son.
Lori had been behind her mom as well, so she stopped and wasn't sure what she walked into because she had heard her mother's view and she feared what was going to happen due to Stevie being there.
Stevie shut her eyes tightly, in hopes she wouldn't get yelled at. She wished that nobody could see her and, or she disappeared from the planet.
"What are you doing here?" her mother asked, coldly. She was very unamused at the fact that her daughter was there again.
"I came to say goodbye to my brother and sister..." she responded. "That's all."
Barbara rolled her eyes. And as she was about to speak, her son started.
"Why is she leaving?" he asked, directing his temper at his mother.
"Because, she isn't welcome here anymore," she assured.
"Why is that?" he asked, arms crossed. He did not like that his mother was being like that to his sister. He thought it was a bunch of bullshit especially if his mother was holding a grudge about the party.
"Please, don't do this," Stevie begged once again.
This was everything she had been trying to avoid, thus far.
