Katniss's POV

We all went outside and started walking towards the woods. I felt the cold fresh breeze against my skin.

"What are we going to catch today mama? I was thinking a bear or a lion!" Willow said.

We all laughed. She just looked confused.

"Lions don't live here honey, but if we do see a bear we'll definitely get it." I said rubbing her back.

Talking about bears made me always think of Prim and how I probably could never kill one again.

"How about we just stick to deer." Peeta said. He knew by the look on my face I didn't want to catch a bear.

"Oh fine. But it has to be a big big deer." Willow said. I smiled.

"You couldn't even catch a baby deer, or eat it." Forest said.

"Yes I could! I'm strong just like mama!" She said.

"Whatever you'd be eaten by it." He said.

"Deer don't eat people Forest!" she said.

"Exactly." Forest said.

We all heard something in this bush just across from us. We all went silent. Peeta and I looked at each other. I pulled an arrow out of my arrow holder. Willow and Forest went to hide behind Peeta.

"Don't be scared, we'll be eating it tonight." I heard Peeta whisper softly to them.

I kept my eyes locked on the bush. I saw the little leaves jiggle. Something was in it, it needs to come out. Slowly I saw some ears, it was a deer. I aimed for it. Willow doesn't like to watch me kill it.

"Willow look away sweetheart." I whispered.

I was ready to let go. I did and heard the arrow stick through the deer. It fell over.

"Yay mom! Good job!" Forest said excited.

"Thank you! I need to teach you and Willow how to shoot soon." I said.

We all ran over to it. It was dead. It's kind of sad knowing that I took a life of another animal, but if I wanted my kids to survive and my husband. I needed to do it. I pulled the arrow out of it. Peeta picked it up and carried it over his shoulder.

"It's pretty heavy. This will probably last us a week." Peeta said.

"Good. Glad it came out of the bushes." I said smiling.

"Me too!" Forest said.

"I wish we didn't have to kill animals to eat." Willow said sad.

"I know, but it's okay being a deer isn't that fun anyways, I'm sure it's glad we sent it to a better place." Peeta said.

"Really?" She asked.

"Really." He said.

Willow smiled. We all walked back to the house. It was lunch time and I'm sure we wanted to have the deer for dinner.

"What's for lunch?" Forest asked.

"I think we have a bird from the other day in the freezer." Peeta said.

"We just had that!" Forest said.

"Last time I promise, then we'll be having deer for the next week."

"Fine."

I took the bird out of the cooler and took it outside to cook over the fire.

"Where's buttercup?" Willow asked looking around.
