Wedding Bells

I watched as your fingers dug painfully and slowly into my chest and ripped my heart out
You held it in your hands, disdain heavy in your eyes
As you threw it to the ground, I listened to the thud as it smacked the dirt
But all I could really hear right then were the wedding bells ringing in my ears
Even when I was forced to reach down, pick my dirty, disgusting heart up, and try to shove it back into my chest while you walked off, I pretended that you were waiting for me at the end of the aisle in all black
Because I wanted to
And still to this day I pretend that you also heard the wedding bells ringing in your ears over the sounds of my heart beating on the dirt in front of me
