This video is very interesting. It offers an inside look to a club in the 1940s. Nothing special is happening, it's exactly as it would have been any night. This shows what the inner atmosphere of nightclubs was back then.

This site explores jazz clubs from the 1920s to the 1990s. It gives a good idea of what jazz clubs were like and what they meant to people. Jazz clubs were some of the most popular clubs, especially in the larger cities.

Unfortunately, there isn't much information I can find about clubs in the 1950s. From what I can tell, they were the center of social life up to the 1940s. When the 1950s came around, clubs slowly stopped being the hangout place for adults. The club scene died down somewhat, though it was, and still is, present.
