I flung the front door open, clutching my bag over my shoulder tightly. The lobby itself had dark grey/blue walls with the matching shade of carpet, a wooden black table against the wall directly opposite the front door with a single red flower in a thin, clear vase in the middle of the table.

It was a statement slash of colour to the room.

The hum of the Yankee Candle scent teased my nostrils. Usually it was a comforting smell of home. At the moment I wanted to throw my guts up at the scent of the Cherry Blossom candle - demandedly in every room downstairs and also the guest bedroom and bathroom.

To my left was the ultra-modern kitchen, barely used as everyone always ate out and it was a waste of time hiring a cook - even though my mother still insisted we have one. Everyone important had their own private cook.

I rushed directly into the sitting room, framed with an arch instead of doors. The grey blue colour ran all the way through the sitting room, into the dining room, up the stairs and across the landing. I caught slashes of bold red as I zipped past the sitting room, into the dining room, barely focusing on the dominant, bold dining table in the middle of the room with black leather seats and three red tulips as the centerpeice.

"Good afternoon, Miss Knight." Our cleaning lady called.

"Hey Alice!" I called back. It prided me to know that all of our staff declared me as their favourite. They always bought me little treats when they went shopping and they always smiled at me.

But today, I really needed to toilet!

I rushed up the stairs, taking them two at a time, hurled myself through my bedroom door and barricaded myself into my own en suite bathroom.

My bathroom was all simple marble in the shade of golden sand, a white bath tub, a walk in shower, and a luxury sink with bits and bobs scattered all over it.

I pressed my back against the door and took a deep breath before scrambling in my bag for the pregnancy test kit.

My cheeks flamed at the rememberance of walking into the drugstore and watched as the woman behind the counter looked down at me as if to say "another single one pregnant. Should have used a condom, you silly girl", though she didn't say it out loud. It was all in her eyes.

Okay so I missed my period, my nose made me want to vomit at every sniff and my breasts felt full and heavy.

Maybe I was over-reacting?

After all the doctor did say it may take a few times before we conceived.

Oh god, the moment was upon me. Either I was pregnant or I'd be back on those drugs just as soon as Diego snapped his fingers.

Taking the two sticks out of the package, I carefully read and re-read the leaflet, followed the steps and clicked the blue lids back over the tips that I did  my business on and waited.

I turned the pregnancy tests over, not wanting to watch every agonizing second. Two tests were better than once. Plus I didn't think I'd have enough pee for two without gulping down a two litre bottle of water. My mind began to wander...

I hadn't spoken to Diego much since we did the insemination. I'd get a phone call one a week - twice if I were lucky and irregular texts asking how I was and if I felt any different.

As usual, I replied courteously to all of the texts and talked to him politely on the phone. We only talked briefly when we were alone, even less breifly if one of us were in someone elses company.

To the very bottom of my heart, I know for a fact he had somebody tailing my every move and giving him regular updates as to where I went, what I did, and probably what I ate outside of the house. He'd probably be telling Diego all about my little visit to the drugstore today.
