Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur that first appeared during the late Maastrichtian stage of the late Cretaceous period, about 68 million years ago in what is now North America.

is widely known for its large head with three horns. It is believed that the triceratops lived during a portion of the Cretaceousperiod around 70 million years ago. Fossils have been found in North America in both the western US and Canada.
