'Where am I?' I was sitting on a beach, overlooking calm waves of turquoise repeatedly lap up on the sandy shores. I was not complaining; however, the sand I lay on gave off a comforting warmth, filling me with a strange sense of safety, all the concerns I had slowly faded away like the foamy trails the waves left. It felt like years since I last sat on a beach; indeed I was sure it had been.

'Do you enjoy watching the waves, Sir?'

My eyebrows rose a notch, the feminine voice appearing out of thin air. I shook the surprise off, 'Sorry Miss, you gave me a scare,' She giggled, 'I am sorry Sir.'

'No need to apologize, Miss, I was simply caught off guard...Here,' I got up, taking my jacket off to lay it on the sand, 'Would you honor me with your company?' I asked, sitting back down. She smiled a charming, beautiful smile that made even diamonds look dull. 'Happily Sir,' pushing her red woolen cloak to her thighs, she slowly lowered her bottom to the jacket on the sand. I looked back to the waves, closing my eyes to the lullaby of the ocean, breathing in its poignant salty breath. 'Do you come here often Sir?' She asked, I opened my eyes, a tinge of sadness coming over me. 'Not often enough I fear, most my life has been spent sailing the seven seas.''Oh? You sail with the Royal Navy?''...Once upon a time I did, no more, however.''I am glad Sir, I would hate to see you harmed...'I blushed, 'Are you always so kind to strangers Miss?'She smirked, 'Only to those I like.'

My face turned even redder, arousing laughter from the young woman. 'Well, I greatly enjoyed our time together, but I should be going now, I am sure my father is worried sick.''Ah yes, I am sure he would be.'I rose from my seat in the sand, swiftly lending a hand to the lady to help her up. 'Will I see you around...''John, John is my name.'She smiled, 'Well, will I see you around John?'I sighed, 'Afraid not miss...I'll likely be leaving soon.'She frowned, 'I'm sorry to hear that, I would have enjoyed your company.''And I yours Miss.'She turned to leave but faltered in her step.'One last thing before I go.''Huh?'Before I could react, she had taken a swift turn in my direction and took one big step toward me, her breath now warm against my neck as she looked into my eyes. I couldn't help but notice how intense her own eyes were, and unlike the rest of her they weren't at all expressive, they were cold, like ice.'Do you know what they say about the eyes, John?''I don-n't think I do.'The left side of her crimsoned lips tugged upwards creating a seductive smirk on her fresh face; casting a spell of lust onto me.

'They say, John, the ey--' A terrible rumble sounded from deep in the belly of the earth, interrupting her mid-sentence. She was distracted, giving me the chance to pull away from her, releasing myself from her spell, the world around me was crumbling into dust. I took several more steps backward, pulling my gaze off the crumbling earth to take one last look at the lady, her smirk was now a faint smile, the trail of a single tear clear on her white face, like the trail of a slug on a leaf. 'I don't understand!' I screamed, she didn't respond, her mind seemed to be somewhere else as the sudden surge of wind repeatedly buffeted her apple red cloak.'You John, are a lucky man...' She faintly whispered, her voice carrying over the wind like a leaf straight to my ears, I couldn't help but feel a tingling sensation shoot through my body.My mouth gaped open, gasping for air, however, seconds later I could feel the salty water clawing at my throat. As time passed, more and more ocean water spewed out of my coughing, choking mouth. Even when I felt it was over, all of a sudden my stomach would begin contracting violently and force even more water out. After what seemed like minutes, finally, I was able to lay still as a rock on the damp sand. Tilting my head upwards towards the sun that sat high in the sky, the warm rays of sunlight soaking into my pale body. "Thank you..." I stammered through quick, shallow breaths. Oxygen felt like a gift as I lay there for hours, utterly unable to move out of shock, the mysterious woman was the least of my concerns as of the moment.          After what seemed like centuries of lying down, I knew it was time to leave this beach. "Ehh" I groaned, lurching upright into a sitting position, before getting up however I kicked my waterlogged shoes off, delighted to feel the odd sensation of the hundreds of grains of the damp sand press against my feet as I stood up. However, I didn't have time to dally; night time was approaching; I had to find people, fast. Sighing, I put my black boots back on, even with the unpleasant moisture stuck in the shoes, I knew it was the right decision. I looked around, trying to get a feel for my surroundings. What the hell is that? Something had caught my eye, on the north side of the island a faint trail of black smoke curled up into the sky. I smiled, 'I am lucky, aren't I...' I thought as I began to trot off in that direction, no time wasted in my decision.Luckily, a path had been created, which led me in between the trees leading toward the north end of the island, I followed it. I slowed to a brisk walk; my left foot was aching, sharp spikes of pain shot up through my body with every step. "Damn!" I stopped, looking around to see if I could find any strong enough branches to support my weight. 'There!' I stumbled off to the right, picking up a sturdy piece of wood. I gripped the branch with both hands, fervently beginning again towards the north side of the island. As I walked along the path, slowly the vegetation began to change from tall palms to immensely leafed, short trees and bushes. "Hey! Wait up, Hugh!" 'Who was that?' I stopped my pace, scanning the land for any people, I couldn't see anyone yet I could hear someone approaching, quickly too--but from where.         "Ahhh!" I was rammed headlong to the ground from behind. My arms swiftly went to cover my face, protecting me from any serious damage. I groaned even more, rage building up inside of me like a wildfire. "You bastard!" I yelled from under him, almost instantly the weight on top of me vanished, whomever it was ran like a coward back from whence they came, his friend following quickly from behind. "Damn it!" I winced, picking myself back up, I followed them as fast as I could, ruffling up bushes as I went. I could kill two birds with one stone; find the source of the smoke, and find the runt who had rammed into me. I ran, and ran, my heart throbbing inside my chest, sweat rolling down my forehead in thick, salty beads, "Bloody hell!" I wiped at my face, some of the sweat had gotten into my eyes, making my vision blurry as I blindly ran forward in the general direction the two boys had went.
