If I make myself smaller
Will my worth grow bigger
Will I be better
Prettier
Worthy of being watched
Touched
Used
If make myself smaller
Will I matter more
Will you play with my hair
And wear me like a trophy
Worthy of being displayed
Or if I make myself smaller
Will you forget the other parts of me
The bits no one can see
Or have you never seen them anyway
They aren't caged
And yet I don't see you looking
Listening
Hearing
If I make myself smaller
More palatable
Nicer
Will you still keep me tucked away
Hidden like a slave
In a dark room
Reminding me that I'm not yet small
That I take up too much space
And yet everything inside me is still, caged.
