"should i pick up?" i asked, making her head jolt from the view to look at me.

she nods vigorously as i pull the phone to my ear, clearing my throat, "hey."

"hey!" excitement is lacing his voice, immediately tugging my lips into a smile.

"what are you up to?" i asked him.

"oh nothing really." he simmers down, causing my lips to turn to a frown, "what about you?"

"i'm here with olivia." i set my phone to speaker so she can hear him too.

"hey, olivia!" he said excitedly again, "what are you guys up to?"

"we're just sitting on my roof." i said bluntly.

"you can do that there? isn't it just, unable to be climbed up to?" he laughed.

a smile perked up on both of our faces, "anthony, where are you getting your information?"

"obviously not from a reliable source." he chuckled, making my cheeks flush red. he had a major hold over me and olivia was the first to notice, somehow.

"some houses have easier accessibility than others." olivia cut the tension.

"oh, yeah." i said quickly, drawing back into the conversation.

"i get it now." he sighed, "hey mar?"

"yes?" i asked, shoving my mouth full with even more ice cream.

"can i talk to you? alone?" he asked, indicating he wanted either me or olivia to go inside.

i switched my phone off of speaker before telling olivia that i'd be right back. i climbed down, getting into my window easily. olivia would obviously be nosy, so i went into my bathroom and shut the door.

"what do you want to talk about?" my voice was filled with nervousness and confusion so he would be unconvincingly stupid to not realize. i sucked in a trembling breath, trying to calm my nerves so i could go back to speaking like a normal person.

he didn't answer right away, making it seem like he was gathering himself when i was the one gathering myself, "i just wanted to ask a few questions."

i chuckled, i was getting worked up over a handful of questions, "fire away."

"what's so special about toronto?"

"what do you mean?" i admit, the question caught me off guard. i had thought he was going to ask me some cheesy questions.

"you mentioned your mom worked in europe, why not go with her?"

"i have friends here, it'd be a lot of work, plus, i can't leave my dad."

"i get that, how many kids do you want?"

"whoa anthony! i'm only fifteen! you're kidding me! two."

his laugh erupted through the phone, it took him around twenty seconds to stop, "okay, okay, last but not least, what's your favourite type of flower?"
