Do You Miss Me?

Do you miss me, beloved?
Do you miss our indulgent late evenings?
Yes, our lush nights of endless pleasure-
Deaf to the raging storms of circumstance,
Time could have flared for as long as it willed
As long as we remained frozen in our moment;
A suspended animation.

Beyond doors wide open, nothing concealed,
We worked miracles
We dug into our souls with scalpels, like surgeons
In the darkest days and in the brightest nights
We operated
I revealed to you, the best version of you
The version you could never escape from
For it would be futile to even fathom trying,
Like a chained fowl seeking to flee,
You really could never run from me.
Or so I thought.

Do you miss me now, betrayer?
I never thought you could switch up on me.
After all I had done, after defining you
I was your ride or die, but like Nasty said,
You made me die inside.
You dismantled every bit of my being
And you chose another over me.

You became ashamed of me, erstwhile love.
And now, bloodied, battered and wretched,
You crawl back to me, tugging at my feet,
Asking me to take you back one last time,
Like the Prodigal Son, but more entitled.

Go to hell, my erstwhile lover,
Return to the mistress that you have chosen.
Our destinies are no longer interwoven.
I know you miss me badly-
I think I miss you, too.
But now, with everything changed,
I wouldn't care less.
