The whole night all I could think about was what Alexander had told me. I layed in bed trying to sleep but it was impossible. Morning arrived and I was still laying in bed. My mom came into my room and was worried
" you are pale Callista, I think I should take you to the doctor " she said feeling my forehead with her hand
" mom I will be ok, I couldn't sleep, I think I just need to try to sleep, I'm staying home from school today" I said rolling up in my bedspread
" ok, take an aspirin and try to sleep" she said handing me some water and an aspirin and then she left my room
I closed my eyes and thought about the sea. That always seemed to calm me. I thought about being by the sea with my feet touching the water and the sea salt breezing through my face. I heard the birds flying by and then bent down to get a sea shell on the sand touching it and feeling the sand through my fingers. I then splashed some water on my face and then I sat on the sand digging my feet into the sand. Then from afar I would see Alexander walking towards me smiling holding a white rose in his hand and then handing it to me. He then sat next to me and we admired the ocean together.
I opened my eyes and looked at the clock on my nightstand and it said 3:00p.m I had slept all morning into the afternoon and I felt refreshed. I got up and saw there was the white rose and the sea shell on top of my desk.I froze looking at them and started shaking with fear and started shouting
" Alexander! Alexander!"
Within minutes my door bell rang and I ran to open the door and there stood Alexander.
" come in now! Explain! " I shouted pulling him in my house and slamming the door.
Ha looked at me with those crystal blue eyes that would make any girl melt. He then smiled and I new instantly that he had read my mind and I blushed in embarrassment .
" let's sit down and I will explain" he said moving to the living room
We sat down and I continued to stare at him.
" Callista you can read minds and now when you close your eyes and think strongly you transport yourself to where you thought. You thought you were at the beach and you were actually there and I feel what you feel so I came to the sea to comfort you. "
" we are connected? No more privacy? " I shouted
" calm down, I came to you because you thought of me, I told you yesterday if you think of me I will come to you, but when you don't think of me I can't come to you or feel you, you control everything "
" I can stop you from feeling me?" I asked confused
" yes Callista, I will teach you everything but if you don't think of me you are able to block me from reading you, feeling you and also coming to you, you have the power of it all" he smiled
In that moment I started thinking of flowers and a beautiful garden, " can you read me?"
" no, I read nothing"
Then I thought of Alexander and the beautiful garden, " now?"
" a very beautiful garden" he laughed
Then I closed my eyes and thought about being on the Empire state building. I was alone and looked around the beautiful city and then I imagined Alexander there bringing me a hot pretzel.
" very funny, but look around, you are really here and now just think about going back in you living room and you will go back" he said
I thought about being in my kitchen and Alexander sitting on my sofa and when I opened my eyes I was holding the pretzel in my kitchen and Alexander was on the sofa in the living room. I then went to where he was and I started eating the pretzel and he was laughing.
" very good Callista! You are a fast learner, but be careful no one is around when you appear and disappear, you can't tell anyone what you are able to do" he said firmly
"why?" I asked
" normal people don't understand and you can cause problems on yourself, it's better to keep it to yourself" he said seriously
" ok, " I said shrugging
All of a sudden I heard someone outside saying" I can't take it anymore, I have to end it today, everyone is always on top of me and my parents don't understand that I hate their constant nagging"
I immediately ran to the door and out side but no one was there, I looked all around but there was no one.
Alexander followed me 'what did you hear?' he thought
'I looked at him " someone is going to commit suicide today, I heard their thoughts, but no one is here ' I thought without speaking ' I need to help her! Help me find her!'
' ok, close your eyes and think of the voice, think about all she said, try to move towards the voice, look around the voice ' he thought
' I see a coffee shop, it's two blocks from here' I thought
' ok, go there and let me come with you ' he thought holding my hand
I thought about being on the side street of the coffee with Alexander where there were no people.
I opened my eyes and we were there standing holding hands. His hand was soft and it made me shiver holding it so I pulled away instantly and ran to the front of the shop. There were many people and all their thoughts were in my head and I covered my ears in pain.
' think of only my voice,Callista, and block the others or you will continue to be in terrible pain' he thought putting a hand on my shoulder.
I thought strongly of Alexander's voice and the other voices were blocked and I felt better. I looked into his eyes
' thank you, now where is that girl?' I thought
' ok,look around and concentrate on the voice, it will lead you to her'
I looked around and concentrated on what I had heard before and just like that I saw a light over a girl's head. She was on the corner of the street looking at the busy street. She was a girl that I had seen before. I couldn't remember where I had seen her but I saw her starring at the busy street and as I walked closer to her I heard her thoughts ' as soon as it's green I will throw myself in the traffic that will be the end of this horrible life'
I looked at Alexander ' she's going to throw herself in the traffic as soon as it's a green light' I thought worriedly
Just then the traffic light turned green and she was about to go in the traffic when I reached her and grabbed her jacket and Alexander pushed her away from the corner
" leave me alone!" the girl yelled
" are you ok?" I asked looking into her sad eyes
" Callista? What are you doing here?" she asked
I looked at her face and then I remembered where I had seen her before , we had done a theatre project in another high school and she was there too.
" hi Mary" I smiled remembering her name
Then Alexander looked at me ' clear her sad thoughts and fill her mind with happy moments, you can do it, just look into her eyes.' he thought .
I looked straight into her eyes and thought about the things we did in theatre and I thought of her laughing, and I thought of her happy with her parents and I thought of her dancing on stage.
She looked at me and all of a sudden her sad eyes looked happy she even smiled.
" Callista we need to meet up some time and maybe do some theatre again" she said excitedly
" yes, for sure! I would love that" I said happily
We spoke for a bit and then exchanged numbers and then she left.
I looked at Alexander ' I saved her life'
'yes, you did, and it's just the beginning 'he smiled
