The following days I spent alot of time with Alexander. We went to school together and then studied together because even if I was a witch I needed to get good grades. Alexander was very smart and learned very fast and he said it was a Morlock 's ability. Everyone at school starred at us when we walked together down the hall, they all thought we were a couple even my best friend Amelia.
" your boyfriend is hot" giggled Amelia one day in the ladies room
" we are just friends, he is new and I'm just helping him get adjusted " I smiled
" well that's not how he looks at you, you dont see how he is always looking at you in class and in the lunchroom, he likes you Callista " exclaimed Amelia
" you think? I don't see him looking at me differently, I think it's just his eyes that are bright that makes him seem that he likes me" I said shyly
" his eyes are brighter when he looks at you, we will see, I think soon he will ask you out" laughed Amelia
I couldn't tell Amelia that Alexander looked at me so that we could speak through our minds and he helped me control all the thoughts so I wouldn't be in pain. So I decided to let her believe what she wanted.
One morning Alexander showed up at my door with a new car. " did you steal it?" I asked worriedly
" Callista! No! My parents bought it for my birthday" he said happily
" its funny I didn't know you had a family, you never talk about them" I said surprisingly
" there is not much to say, I was adopted like you by a rich couple. My mom has a model agency and my dad works in Wall Street, they care about me but they are always travelling , I have a maid who cares for me since I was a child " he said smiling
"oh! I see! When was your birthday? "
" it was two weeks ago but they were not here so they gave me my gift yesterday, so ,can I drive you to school?" he asked
" sure! Thank you" I said grabbing my bag and jacket and closing the door.
In the car as he was driving us to school, we passed a corner where there were alot of people and I heard a thought" she is a slut and will pay for it, tonight she will get what she deserves"
I immediately looked at Alexander and he understood and stopped the car and looked at me
' what did you hear?" he asked
"a guy is going to hurt a girl" I said sadly
Alexander turned to face me and held my hands and looked straight into my eyes
' you will bring us together to him, close your eyes, concentrate on the voice, look around and bring us to a place where no one is around him' he thought
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the man's voice and I saw a shop near him where they sold bicycles. I then imagined Alexander and I near by where I saw no one around and when I opened my eyes Alexander was still holding my hands and looking at me. His touch always made me shiver so I pulled away slowly and looked around. I saw people walking and talking around where we were but then I saw a boy with a light over him and knew instantly it was him. He was tall and well built and as I got closer I read his horrible thoughts, he was angry and very aggressive and I was afraid to confront him but I had to stop him. I walked right in front of him and looked into his eyes. The boy kept walking and pushed me away .
I looked at Alexander ' how can I stop him?"
Alexander looked at me ' close your eyes and imagine him standing still and not able to move . That will freeze him for an instant so you have time to clear his terrible thoughts'
I concentrated and closed my eyes and imagined him standing still at the corner and when I opened my eyes he was still. I ran quickly in front of him and looked into his eyes and started thinking about him playing with his friends basketball and having a barbecue with his family and I thought of other happy moments that saw in his past. Within seconds he started moaning and looked at me frightened
" what do you want from me" he said
" I wanted to say hello, I saw you at the park the other day" I said remembering a memory I had seen in his mind
He then smiled " hi!" and walked away
I looked at him as he walked away and read his mind and all I read were happy thoughts and he wasn't angry anymore and he didn't hate that girl anymore.
I then turned and looked at Alexander who was starring at me with his bright eyes and he moved closer to me and kissed my cheeck ' you are amazing' he thought
I looked at him blushing ' thanks to your help we helped another person' I smiled
He then took my hand and we walked all the way back to the car in silence, his hand felt nice but it made me shiver but I didn't mind this time.
' you feel it too, I know you do' he thought
' I feel it, but isn't it normal between us?' I thought
' I dont know' he thought as he drove us to school.
We arrived late at school and when everyone saw that we entered the class together everyone started whispering. I knew that rumours would start about us being a couple and I didn't know how to stop them.
'let them think what they want, I don't mind' Alexander thought looking at me with a smirk
I just smiled and tried to pay attention to the lesson. At the end of our classes I rushed out of school not waiting for Alexander because I didn't want other rumours to start. I walked very fast to the bus stop and just as I got there I saw Alexander standing in front of his car at the bus stop waiting for me.
" how did you get here so fast? How did you know I was coming here?" I exclaimed
" actually it was instinctive, and you came with me to school so you needed a way home" he said opening the passenger door and signalling with his hand to get in. I decided to get in because I really hated taking the bus and I sat in the seat with my hands crossed.
" don't be angry" he said looking at me
He started driving away and I looked out the window trying to block my thoughts so he couldn't read me. I saw that he wasn't taking the streets to my house
" where are you taking me?" I asked not looking at him but continued to stare out the window
" I know you like gardens, so I want to take you to a beautiful garden" he said
I then saw the sign and it read 'welcome to the botanical gardens' and smiled. It was a place I had not been to in years. I loved to see all the colourful flowers and I knew that he must have read it in my mind before.
We got out of the car and walked around admiring all the flowers. I concentrated on the flowers and blocked all the thoughts around me including Alexander's. I then sat on a bench and starred at the garden and Alexander sat next to me and reached to hold my hand, but as soon as I held it I felt the same shiver as always and pulled away.
" Callista, don't pull away" he said reaching for my hand again
I looked at him ' why do I feel a shiver inside when you touch me?'
' I feel it to, but it's more like a force to me, it is a pleasant feeling ' he thought and continued to hold my hand and caressing it with his finger and then with his other hand he touched my cheeck lightly and bent over to kiss my cheeck.
I blushed and looked into his eyes and read his thoughts ' you are so beautiful Callista, I can't help from feeling you, I lose control when I'm next to you, but I know that is wrong and it goes against all rules' he thought sadly
'rules?' I thought
' I'm a Morlock and you are an Illusionist and we are destined to work together but never be together, our families don't mix '
'so what do we do about what we feel when we touch?' I asked
' we need to ignore it and hopefully it will go away in time' he thought getting up from the bench.
I looked at him and followed him to his car without saying anything more.
