After all this time ?

Chapter 9

It was the weekend of the gallery opening I was going to for my boss, I am so nervous but at least I have Lucas with me

Me and Lucas have been talking a lot more but we still weren't official we are just friends, Riley and Farkle have been FaceTiming almost every night as well but Riley still doesn't know he is coming to surprise her in the summer when we have our party

Lucas had a rodeo before the gallery opening so he said he would meet me here, I took a deep breath and walked in meet my boss straight away

"You must be Maya " She said handing me a glass of champagne

"Yes I am" I answered politely taking the drink

"Well show us what you can do Maya go and talk to everyone around impress us" Okay here goes

I can't make mistakes this is my time to show them my passion for art and to show them how hard I've worked for this

I started walking up to the people who were admiring the art works and I was talking to them explaining what the art work was and what it represented, some people had questions which I answered others just wanted to be left alone and look I soon realised that

I was starting to get much busier and I'm starting to stress with all this running around all night until I saw Lucas come in and I immediately went over and hugged him

"Thank you for coming Ranger Rick" He tightly hugged me back and I started to feel a little more relaxed

"My pleasure" he said and let me out of the hug just as my boss walked over to us

"Well who did you bring?" She asked looking at Lucas up and down

"This is Lucas my- " I paused and looked at him "my friend"

"Friends?" She stated almost questioning but she quickly changed the subject

"So what do you do Lucas are you also interested in art?"

"No" he stated not going into detail

"Lucas is a bull rider" I mentioned so it wasn't just an awkward silence

"Interesting I've never met a bull rider... Well please find me before you both leave and tell me what you though of the evening" she walked away

Lucas was about to talk to me when I got pulled away by some other people thinking about buying the art work "sorry" I mouthed back at him

LUCAS POV

I watched as Maya went from person to person talking about art, I overheard some couple looking at this one piece of art it was honestly just a white canvas and lines

"So 20 thousand would you say? It will be worth double that in a year" The man asked his wife I assume

I scoffed three thousand for that? These people are crazy.

I kept walking around all night waiting for the night to be over, if it wasn't Maya I would of left already but I want to support her

It was almost the end of the night when Maya's boss came up to me soon followed by Maya "So what do you think of the evening?" She asked

"Honestly?" She nodded her head and Maya just gave me a stern look

"Honestly I think there is more bullshit here than where I work" I joked smiling, hopefully she knows it was a joke

Though it's not entirely a joke

Maya glared at me but her boss started laughing "I like him, you should keep him" she said as she walked off

Maya pulled me outside "What the hell Lucas That's my boss you just said that to" I could tell she was annoyed she was practically yelling

"Maya relax it was a joke she laughed" I spoke softly trying to calm her down

"She might of only laughed to be polite" Maya looked back inside sighing loudly

"How could you say that to her? To the woman who I hope will launch my career!" She wasn't even looking at me anymore

"Her seriously? Come on." I gestured inside at the woman and Maya angrily turned to face me

"No you come on! You know how hard I have tried to fit into your world why can't you try to fit into mine?" I walked away slightly this is getting too heated

Maya walked in front of me and I stopped walking "I do."

"Maya? What are we doing?" I had to ask, I don't want to ruin our friendship

"What do you mean?" She looked up at me speaking quieter than before

"I mean can you ever see yourself living on a ranch? A working ranch for the rest of your life?" What I'm saying might be totally in the future but I still need to know, I don't want us both to be wasting our time

"And do you think that I could move to New York with you and sit and drink tea with your art friends and talk about squiggly lines on a white canvas like they are more than squiggly lines on a white canvas!" I said almost yelling

I was getting a little angry and maybe I shouldn't be but I care about Maya a lot, I don't want to screw this up and loose her

"I know all of that I do, I get it" She shouted tears coming to her eyes

"I don't know Lucas!" She sighed holding back tears

"I don't know what we are doing." She said getting more upset, looking up at me but then down at the floor

She slowly looked back up at me a tear rolling down her cheek. I softly placed my hand on her cheek and wiped away her tear

"I just.. I don't know how to make this work" I admitted moving my hand away

"I don't either, but I know I want to." She said softly tears slowly falling down her face

"Maya will you be my girlfriend?" I asked suddenly taking her off guard

"What did you just say Huckleberry?" She questioned shocked

"You heard me" I smiled, she leaned forward and kissed me

"I'll take that as a yes" she giggled, the cutest laugh ever

"Why is it that something good always happens for us after an argument" she said smiling softly

"I don't know but I'm glad you said yes"

"Well technically I didn't say anything"

"Oh shut up and kiss me" I said putting my lips on hers again
