"I swear to God it was funnier in my head."
Dave and I sat across from each other in a restaurant booth. He caught me leaving the library again and offered to pay for dinner, I didn't pass that opportunity.
"Maybe try wording it better," I smiled and continued to eat my pasta.
He stopped smiling for a bit before continuing, "well, how are you? I always talk about myself."
I hesitated before continuing, I didn't want Dave to know any of my personal sentiments just yet, "I'm fine. There are some things that I would like to change."
"Like?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Some.. friendships," I pushed away my empty plate, "that I wish were better."
Understanding the hints, he strayed away from the conversation, "I heard about this mini golfing place, do you wanna go sometime?"
"The one in Manhattan? I went there with my friends, it's not all that," I lied. We planned to go mini golfing later when we all were free.
"Really?" He smirks, "but I'm challenging you."
"No."
"Boring," he sighed.
"Not boring, just not interested," I squinted my eyes. He was being his jerky self again.
"Whatever," he put on his coat and laid down a tip, "boring."
"Not boring!"
We laughed as we pushed the double doors of the restaurant, Dave ended up walking me back to my building.
"There's actually a reason as to why I've been asking you out," He said, "and trying to catch you after the library."
"Oh? You mean you weren't trying to stalk me?" I sarcastically said, "what is it?"
He let out a chuckle, "there's a film festival coming up. And as a student majoring in photography, I wanted my film to be revolves around you. I'm asking you if you could be my subject."
My eyes widened, "oh no. No, no, no," I shook my head, "that's embarrassing.."
Dave started to walk backwards to face me, "but the festival is small, okay? It's usually only the students who are majoring and some of their friends. No one else comes unless their professors, come on."
I refused to meet his gaze; I didn't want someone to follow me around and edit my face for everyone else to see, isn't that weird?
"I have no inspiration to have anything else as a subject," Dave went on, "Corie, I've known you the longest."
My chest felt like it was going to explode, I began to feel extremely anxious, "I don't know.."
"If you're worried about not being good enough that's a lie," He said, "it's going to be a mini documentary about a student's simple college life."
We were already making our way upstairs to my floor and I wanted him to leave.
"Fine, whatever. But you only film me for the project and only when I'm aware and conscious of when you are doing it. No candids."
"Candids are—"
"NO CANDIDS," I shot him a death glare.
He shrugged his shoulders, "okay. Got it, thank you Corie." Dave waved goodbye as he left.
I turned to my left and saw Luke coming his way, "hey, who was that?"
"Ah, that guy Dave I told you about.."
