| CHAPTER NINE - 703 WORDS |
"THIS IS SO much fu—!" Alex gets cut off by him flying through the air from hitting a curb.
Mackenzie winces and jumps off the bike when Gabriel comes to a stop. He, too, jumped off the bicycle and let it fall to the ground as well as everyone else did. The group ran over to help Alex who's eyes were fixed ahead of them. Gabriel followed his eyes and looked at Los Angeles, seeing complete and utter destruction. Smoke was filling the air and faint explosions were heard from it. There was no way a cop could even get a simple key to Pasadena, let alone about 68 miles of driving into that mess.
"Holy shit." Dariush mumbles.
The group continued to ride down the hill and into the destroyed city, small fires around them, cars flipped over, pieces of buildings surrounding them, and trash everywhere. It was truly a mess as the group continued to pull the bikes through the ruble.
"There!" Dariush yells, everyone picking up the speed as the words of sheriffs station was plastered on top of the building. "Man, this place is trash. Looks empty."
"You guys go ahead. I'll, uh, stay back and watch the bikes."
Gabriel stutters out, Mackenzie looking at him and thinking this would be the best time to ask him what is wrong."Oh, yeah, because the aliens wanna jack our mountain bikes." Dariush furrows his eyebrows at Gabriel, Mackenzie stepping in front of the boy.
"I'll stay with him. Remember, there could be looters because we're definitely not the only ones who survived this attack." Mackenzie throws her helmet to the ground, hair flowing with the wind.
"Whatever you two." Dariush shakes his head and throws his own bicycle to the ground with Zhenzhen and Alex doing the same and heading inside the building.
Mackenzie turns to Gabriel, arms folded across each other as she gives him a cold hard death stare. "Gabriel, where did you go? Why did you leave out of thin air?" Mackenzie asks with tears glomming in her eyes, remember the countless nights she spent thinking if he had died or just plain out let her.
"I went to juvie, Kenzie. You know how I was a bagger at her work to help with money since my dad left. My mom had to go do something and I took over the register. This guy accuses me of stealing from him, I must of gave him the wrong change.." Gabriel pauses. "I lost it and punched him, breaking his nose and they sent me away, mom lost her job. She never visited me once. I tried to ask for a phone just to hear your voice, Mackenzie and tell you everything that happened—."
Mackenzie didn't need to hear another word as she took his face between her hands, cupping them to make him look slightly down at her. She hesitates for a moment but stands on her tippy toes, connecting their lips together. Gabriel tenses up a the sudden movement until he relaxes, placing his hands on her waist to deepen the kiss, his lips moving in sync with hers. It was like they were made for each other; how they molded together in perfect harmony. Mackenzie's hands fall from his cheeks and to his neck, pulling him down towards her as she smiles like a baby in the candy store into the kiss. The couple both pulled away due to the lack of air that was needed.
They watched each other in silence, both smiling at each other until Gabriel pulled her into a more quicker kiss, missing the feeling of her lips on his. Mackenzie giggled softly which made his smile grow even more. She looked at the ground and back to him.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that, G.." Kenzie frowns.
He shakes his head, shutting down her sentence as he grabs ahold of her hands tightly.
"We have to go through this alien apocalypse shit now but there's one thing that's different."
"What?"
"We're doing it together."
