THE FINAL PART!!
| CHAPTER FOURTEEN - 1027 WORDS |AFTER SECURING THE key and Dariush getting a massive cut on his stomach from the alien, the group reaches to JPL.
"Man, this place got hit hard." Gabriel spoke, glancing at Mackenzie slightly.
"The building is destroyed! Nobody can survive that!" Dariush yells as he looks at the destruction and rubble that was originally on the building onto the ground, smoke fleeing from windows and around the building. Fires were on flipped over cars as bodies lay of once alive and healthy people, dead now from the invasion.
Mackenzie shivered slightly as their eyes were still open, almost like they were staring at her.
The radio beeped morse code again, the teenagers looking down at it in shock. How could somebody survive this big of an attack?
—
Let's just say he didn't survive the attack.
Mackenzie sighed in defeat as she looked at Dr. Fielding dead body lay in the chair. Blood was dripping down from his hand onto the pedal that signaled morse code. She clenched her two braids tightly in her small hands as she felt anger slowly rise.
"I mean, let's be honest guys. Who do we think we are?"
"Nerd." Alex replies.
"Criminal." Gabriel sighs.
"Orphan." Zhenzhen looks down.
"Loner." Mackenzie shuts her eyes as she sniffles slightly.
"A joke." Dariush holds his wound.
Dariush and Alex walk away to try and contact their parents. Mackenzie didn't even try so she stood still, looking down at the ground. Gabriel did the same but Zhenzhen grabbed two glow sticks and placed them on the ground. No body said anything as they sat around the green light.
Dariush reaches over and pulls out a wine bottle. Mackenzie cringes at the sight, remembering her mom and dad drinking that one day. It wasn't even opened which the boy pointed out.
"Well, since we're all going to die together anyway, may I propose a toast?" Dariush asks while sadly smiling until he looks at the expiration date. "Oh crap! This is from 1969!"
He clicks his tongue against his left cheek. "I mean, could at least get some fresh wine if this is my first time right?"Mackenzie chuckles softly as he throws the bottle across the room, breaking upon impact as a computer turns on behind them. She whips her head around to see a man trying to talk to them. Mackenzie high fives Dariush for being careless and running up to the computer with the rest.
"Hello? Hello, hello, we're here!" Alex yells.
"Citadel, identity yourself. What is your name ma'am?"
Mackenzie snorts out of laugh, Gabriel giving her a side smile and shaking his head softly at her reaction. Dariush couldn't help but let out a small laugh too, sitting down a nearby chair.
"I'm Alex!"
"How old are you?"
"13 and if you don't mind me asking, who are we talking to?" Alex asks.
"This is General George Khoury at Cheyenne Mountain. Is anybody alive at JPL?"
"There are five of us! Everyone else at JPL is dead or severely injured sir. Dr. Fielding is dead. We were sent by an astronaut who gave us a key!"
"You were sent by Major Collins?"
"Why do you think we came over 70 miles to this monstrosity, in countering many dogs and a huge alien creature who has tried to kill us many times, might I add." Mackenzie says sarcastically to the screen.
"Why do we need to do to get it to work?" Alex asks which only made the General sigh.
"Nothing. We're sending two units to—."
"Hell no! I am not leaving this place until those things are destroyed. We didn't come all this way for you to just turn us down, okay? We're done being told what we can and can't do. Sure we're all about 13 but guess what? We came here when a military soldier only made it about 5 minutes in that battle. Now, what do we need to do!" Mackenzie yells.
"Damn girl." Dariush praises.
—
Zhenzhen runs downstairs to boost up the emergency generators. Alex went up to the roof realign the satellite dish. Mackenzie was left with Gabriel, Dariush passed out from the blood loss.
"Get the two keys from the safe locker." The general instructs.
"Fuck." Gabriel panics as he sees the code.
"Punch in, 9, 6, 3, 2, 2, 1, 0, 3."
Mackenzie takes Gabriel's hand in hers, grabbing one of his fingers and pushing in the numbers which made a green screen pop up on the tiny code. Gabriel opens it up hands one of the keys to Mackenzie, both inserted them into the correct slot at the same time. Zhenzhen appears behind them, watching carefully.
When they were about to count down to 1, the ceiling broke and the alien appearing again. Mackenzie and Gabriel scream, backing up into a corner with Zhenzhen and Dariush. It cornered them until a rubrics cube hit it in the head and fell to the ground, gathering it's attention to Alex and running after him.
"Shit, we have to try this again. Okay you ready?"
"Hell yeah, let's destroy that bitches ugly ass face and finish this!" Mackenzie screams.
"1!"
"2!"
"3!"
There was a machine hum and the screen uploading the excalibur to it. Mackenzie throws her hands up in the air and jumps into Gabriel's arms happily. She connected their lips together passionately kissing the boy when the general said there would be two units to pick up the children. The run out the building with Zhenzhen and Dariush.
Alex was still not seen.
There was a silence as they watched the doors, Mackenzie's happiness fading as there was a explosion. Her eyes widened as Zhenzhen cried out his name, desperately hoping he would come out fine like in the movies.
And he did.
Everyone grabbed the boy in a gigantic hug, laughing with him as there was an explosion in the air.
That was the signal that they did it. Teenagers saving the Earth from total destruction with the help of a astronaut and each other.
Who knew going to a summer camp would be this fun?
