I sat in the field, listening to the breeze. My chalkboard and chalk were at my side, since no one was around. I was partially mute. I could still talk, but it was difficult and I didn't want people to see me differently. I was currently making a flower crown, too focused on the crown to notice someone walk up to me.

"Excuse me, miss," a voice said.

I jumped and looked beside me. A hedgehog stood there, looking flustered and hopeful. I placed my hand on my heart and let a small breath.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare, it's just...well, I'm lost," he stated.

I nodded and grabbed my chalkboard. I let a quiet sigh, knowing that he would be confused by my actions. I wrote for a moment before finally showing the board to him.

'Where are you trying to go?'

He looked at the board confused, as I expected. He re read the question before he finally looked at me.

"I'm looking for a small village that's near here," He said.

I erased my board and started writing again. I tried to write quickly so he wouldn't have to wait for me to finish writing. I held my board up, biting my tongue slightly.

'There is a path over to my right. Follow it and you will be in the village.'

He read my board before looking at me. He nodded in understanding and started to leave. I cleaned my board off and placed it next to me, expecting him to leave. When I heard him stop, I looked over at him. He stood still for a moment before turning around and looking at me.

"I'm sorry, but I have to ask...why are you out here alone," he asked.

I looked at him surprised. I didn't expect him to ask that question. I had expected him to ask about my board. I picked up m board and started to write again, sighing as I wrote. I held it up for him to see, a frown on my face.

'No one likes to be with me. They have issues talking to me.'

"Well, why's that," he asked.

I gave him a look before erasing my board and writing a response. He patiently waited for my answer. I held my board up and looked at the forest.

'Because I'm partially mute. I can talk, but I prefer to write. They don't like that.'

"Well, that's just rude. So you're mute, that's not your fault," he said.

I looked at him surprised. I quickly turned my board to me and did the whole process again. He looked at me curiously before I held my board up.

'No one has ever said that before. What's your name?'

"My name's Silver. What's your name," Silver asked, giving me a moment to write my answer.

'(Y/n).'

"Well, it's nice to meet you (Y/n). I don't need to be at that village until later, so...can I sit with you?"

I looked at him surprised before hesitantly nodding. He walked over and sat down next to me, giving me a small smile. I smiled back and grabbed the crown I was working on. We talked once in while, him asking me questions about myself. He would answer the question too, so I wouldn't have to write that often.

This became a normal thing. We met often in that field to talk. I grew to enjoy his company, as he did with mine. He told me about the future and how he was on a mission to save it. He told me about everything that was going on, how the future was broken and in chaos. When he told me that he was to return to the future when his mission was done, I felt sadness fill me and I prayed the day never came. I didn't have anything against Silver and I truly did want his home to be fixed, but that meant that I could never see him again. I had fallen hard for the hedgehog. I had asked him to take me with him to the future once and he went on a rant about how I couldn't. That it wasn't okay.

I was sitting in the field again, tears welled up in my eyes. I was thinking about what would happened when he would leave. I would go back to being alone, with no one to talk to. I bit my lip and let the tears fall. Silver had some news to tell me and I wasn't at all ready to hear it. I knew exactly what he was going to say. I heard footsteps come toward me and more tears fell from my eyes.

"(Y/n)," Silver said, sadness laced in his voice.

I looked up at him, tears streaming down my cheeks. He gave me a sad look before walking over to me. I stood up and immediately gave him a hug. He hugged me back, whispering apologies to me. I pulled away after a moment and went to grab my board. Silver stopped me and made me look at him.

"I can't stay here, (Y/n). And you can't come with me. It could throw off the balance of the world," Silver said.

I shook my head and went to grab my board again. He stopped me once again by hugging me. He knew how much it hurt me for him to leave. I sobbed into his shoulder, wishing that this wasn't happening. Suddenly, I heard a swirling sound and felt the wind pick up. I lifted my head up and started to sob even more when I saw the portal slowly start to appear. Silver pulled away from me and took a step back. I watched as he walked toward the portal, his ears pinned back against his head in sadness. Knowing he wouldn't look at me at this point, I took a deep breath.

"S-Silver," I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper.

Silver stopped in his tracks, frozen in place. He turned around and looked at me with wide eyes. I took a step forward, desperately trying to keep from crying even more.

"Silver, p-please don't go. I can't live in a world without you in it...I love you," I said, tears welling up in my eyes.

Silver's eyes widened more as I took another step forward. Moving quickly, he strode over to me and kissed me. I kissed back, letting the tears in m eyes fall freely. The wind picked up even more and I knew that the portal was fully open now. Suddenly, I felt something surround my body. When Silver pulled back reluctantly, he looked at me and his eyes widened. I looked down at myself and saw my body outlined in a blue glow. I looked at Silver again. He was smiling and he let out a happy, content sigh.

"(Y/n), do you know what this means," he asked.

"N-n-no," I replied.

"It means that you're meant to go to the future. That's why you're glowing."

A smile almost immediately grew on my face and Silver started laughing. He pulled me into a hug as I started to laugh with him. We hugged for a while before pulling away and jumping through the portal together, starting a new future at each other's side.
