Old Pick-Up Truck

I'm sitting next to my brother
Driving behind an old pick-up truck
And it smells just like the one
We had growing up.

I'm thinking about hot summer days
And camping trips;
About three dogs,
One black, two black and white,
Crawling around in excitement
On a moving floor next to my feet.

I don't even realize I'm smiling
Until I look at my brother,
And see him on his phone,
Texting and taking pictures of himself,
And my unbelievably wide grin begins to fall;
I don't think he remembers those days at all.

I turn back to watch the truck,
But he's already in my rear view mirror,
Taking a right at the gas station
And leaving me to take a fast exit
Straight out of the past.

But before my smile can completely disappear,
I smell the freshest green grass,
And I'm pulled back in,
While my brother watches the time anxiously,
Too focused on the now and next
To care much about
The old pick-up truck of before.
