I rolled to my side, sighing in comfort. Why was it so soft? The ground isn't usually like this...When I finally opened my eyes, I gasped in shock. I was laying in a bed, but not my own. I leaped up, and pounced to the other side of the room like a wild cat.
The walls were a cream colour, not a clean white. The sheets that must of fell on the ground while I slept was a white colour too. Everything in this room is white. It was too fresh...
Then the thought came to me, am I dead? I began to panic. How is it possible? How could I be dead? I don't remember dying whatsoever.
"You're not dead, silly Tilly. You fainted earlier, apparently my game was a bit to scary," Shadow teased. I finally spotted him sitting on the bed where I used to be.
I choose to ignore him as I look around the room. I noticed that there was hardly anything in here, only the bed and a bed side table. Then I saw an envelope hiding on the bedside table, along with a glass of water. No I take that back— it was a plastic cup of water. I was definitely not at home, nor was I in the streets.
I walk cautiously to the small table and observe the letter without touching it. It read "My dear, Matilda," on the front. It was for me.
"You know you want to open it, it has your name written all over it," Shadow said. I could feel his presence more strongly now, he was looming over me.
I give in and tear into the envelope after a few seconds and began to read the neat hand writing that was on a sheet of paper.
Dear my daughter, Matilda,
You must have woken up to a strange environment, somewhere you have never seen before. It must be scary, but I can assure you that you will be fine. You will be safe, as you are in the hands of the St Kilda Mental Care.
After your little incident, which I'm hinting to the event in which you made the childish move of running away, you made your father and I very worried and scared for your wellbeing. We searched for you for eight hours before the police found you.
Not only you made us worried sick, we missed our flights to France as we were busy searching for you. So as your reading this, you may be thinking where we are, why we are not with you. We are now on a plane to France, if we are not already there by now.
You ran away knowing that you were destroying our holiday, it was incredibly selfish of you. We are extremely disappointed and disgusted. We thought we raised you a bit better then that.
We will be calling you soon, so we will see how you're going.
We will talk to you soon, we love you very much.
Lots of love, Mum.
This made me furious. They know how I feel, and they dump me here anyways. I can feel tears forming in my eyes, I can only try not to cry. But it doesn't work, my tears fall down my face anyway.
"Awww, don't be sad, Tilly. I love you," Shadow says in a teasing matter, as I screw the letter up into a ball and throw it. I see red.
"Stop, just stop. You don't love me, I'm only your play thing," I yell, gripping my head and looking around the room for an escape. It's only now that I realise there was no window, which was incredibly strange, but there was a door. The door is my escape.
I run to the door, and desperately pull at the door which wasn't locked. It lead out to a hallway, which was so much brighter then this room. The walls, as well as white, had yellow. I hate yellow so much.
I scan the hallways, looking for people around but saw no one. This was my chance to get out.
I run out of the small, white room into the bright, colourful hallways with Shadow not to far behind. I have no idea where I'm going, but I continue.
I'm cautious of my surroundings as I sprint, trying not to get caught by anyone. I know that if someone sees me, I'm bound to be snitched on. I'm bound to be found out.
Suddenly, I hear other footsteps. At least three other people. Footsteps that don't belong to me, nor Shadow. If my heart beat wasn't going fast as it is, then I must be close to having a heart attack.
"She has no where to go, why are we worrying?" Someone coming my way speaks.
"We don't know if she'll do anything to harm herself," another voice speaks in a hushed tone.
What am I going to do? There is no where to go! I turn around to run the other way, but there are footsteps coming from that direction too.
Panicked, I look for another escape. There is a door, but I have no idea where it leads. I try jiggling the door knob, and lucky, it opened. I take the opportunity and rush inside, closing the door behind me. I lead against the closed door, realising how out of breath I am. I close my eyes and allow myself to take deep breathes.
"What are you doing here?" A voice speaks, making me immediately open my eyes. Shadow chuckles from beside me.
"Uh, you saw nothing," I say, and exit the room. A whole group of people in uniforms turn my way immediately. I was caught. I'm completely done for.
