As a growing child
I felt an unbearable need
To help the sad and lonely
Not knowing where it would lead
*
Now our story starts
On the first day of school
It was during gym that you
Were drowning in the pool
*
Not drowning in water
Nor struggling for air
You were drowning in sorrow
Sorrow too heavy to bare
*
Of course the other boys
Were too blind to see
Or perhaps they didn't care
Both are a possibility
*
But I saw and I swam
I asked if you were okay
You shook your head no
We became friends that day
